Secondary Hood Latch

Wanted to commend Jeep on the strength and quality of the secondary hood latch on the WK2. My wife's Outback went into the shop last night so she decided to take the Overland to work today. She hasn't driven it much so she had trouble remembering how to release the parking brake when she got in it. In her confusion, she popped the hood without realizing it. She then drove 15 miles, including 10 on the expressway, to work and then the same on her way home. I was sitting on the front porch smoking a cigar when she got home and noticed the hood was popped right away. Luckily, the secondary latch had held safely.

Have to get her to drive the Jeep more and get used to it.

Re: Secondary Hood Latch

Since the hood latch has a microswitch in it already for the remote start, I'm surprised there isn't a warning that shows up in the EVIC like for doors and the liftgate.

I think the Evic is detecting those other open items via the interior light circuits that come on when those are open. With no under hood light, it means it won't trigger a message.

I was surprised as well that it didn't trigger the alarm when she parked. My old Tahoe alarm would sound if the hood was open while the alarm was armed.

Everything's networked on the 2014+ WK2. There are very few completely analog switch circuits; most are controlled by one canbus module or another, including the interior lights. My point is the data is there and being used by whatever module verifies all conditions are met for remote start. It just needs to be forwarded to EVIC which needs code to use that data and display an icon in the corner.
