Self leveling Headlights

Just curious why the headlights move up and then down when I start my 2012 Overland? Why don't they stay where the last set? What is the actual purpose for the self leveling lights?

Re: Self leveling Headlights

I think it's just part of the power on self test to make sure they're level. Do you have quadralift? The suspension will adjust itself to level which may cause the lights to be pointed up when you start the truck.

Re: Self leveling Headlights

that's just the system test on startup.

your headlights actually move and stay level while driving......up and over hills....etc etc. It helps with your visibility and keeps your lights out of other drivers eyes.

Re: Self leveling Headlights

Thanks, wasn't sure if they adjusted on hills, just thought they did when you used the QL... cool feature I hope they don't freeze up in the winter here in VT... What is the mechanism that make them move?

The use motors that work like linear actuators.

The control unit recognize different values of resistance from the sensors on placed on the left front and rear axle. based on those values a corrective movement is made based on established conditions present for a predetermined amount of time.

Re: Self leveling Headlights

Hi, my '15 GC has stock HID's with the automatic leveling system and I would like to switch out the D3S bulbs with either Philips Ultinon or X-tremeVision replacements. With regards to the leveling system, is it just a simple plug and play install or would I need to make any adjustments to ensure the leveling system remains working properly? Thanks!
