Not that I could see. Do you mean front to back or side to side? Front to back I wing it, then I adjust when I put my snowboard racks on with my snowboard to ensure I have my bindings on my snowboard sitting where I want them. Side to side I just eye it.

It was for front to back adjustment to keep both sides inline with one another. No big deal, was just curious.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

I installed my rack over the weekend.
As mentioned, 2 bolts stay loose (front & rear) and I wasn't sure how tight to torque the other 4 exposed bolts. Rails don't seem to sit flush. I torqued down until I felt they chrome rail getting squashed. How tight did you bolt the 4 other screws?

I made some shims (crush pipe even) to put under the chrome and did it up tight. Been off road with at least 35kg on the roof with wheels in the air and it has not had an issue.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Hey guys thanks for all the postings about replacing the factory black roof strips with the chrome roof rails. Where did you guys purchase the chrome rails from? The only place I could find was justforjeeps.com. Any other sources out there that can save me some $$$. I am new to these postings as a just bout a pre-owned 2012 JGC Laredo.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Hi
I just got a 2014 SRT
Not in possession yet
Looks like may need some spacing washers?
Anyone know where online to get?
Exact part number and URL?
I'm thinking stainless is good way to go
Also with the just for jeeps link' is it the rails only? And how to get discounts for forum members?
I plan on thule putting a roof box up there that I already own
Might do yak towers and whispbars
I had Thule aero bars on my 2004 v8 audi all road I just sold
Thanks
Gideon

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Big thank you to Tuned8e and Myke75. I took a bit from each of your methods and just got this done on my 2015 GC Altitude.

I did purchase some M6 25mm bolts for the four middle mounts on each side. Seemed to me the "bright side" rails were a little taller than the decorative rail at the mount point so I wanted the extra security the longer bolt provided.

For the front and back bolts on both sides I used the factory bolt, but I placed a 1" stainless washer under the bolt head and then placed the factory 1/2" fitted washer under the 1" washer. That factory washer held up the 1" washer while I slid the new rail into place. As with Myke75, I did have to file a little bit off the top of the front bolts for the housing to slide into place, but not much.

Also, just put on the mopar cross bars. Super easy install except for the black plastic top flap which did not come installed. It took twice as long to get these pieces in place than it did to mount the cross bars to the roof.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Great post and photos. I just had this conversation with my local Jeep dealer. I am very optimistic now. Do you know if the same would apply to the 2014 Altitudes?

In most cases I don't think the dealer will be much help with this conversion. The Altitude comes with the "decorative" rails and they will most likely tell you the chrome rail is not a "direct replacement" and they won't do the work for you. The only thing I would like to know is what type of bolt (that you slip the plastic housing over) is actually used on the chrome rails for the front and rear holes? What most of us have done here works, but I'm sure this is not bolt set up used on front and rear in reality.

The 2014 Altitude should be exactly the same hole pattern. Good luck.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Finally got a pair of functional roof rails to swap with the low profile covers on my WK2 Altitude. This thread has been a lot of help understanding the process!

For those that installed washers between the rivnut and the underside of the chrome rail attachment points, what's the easiest way to keep them centered over the bolt hole while you slide the rail over the top of them?

Thanks in advance, can't wait to get these mounted!
