Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Thanks tuned8e.
It seems like I need a flat bolt head and maybe a washer too in order to get the front to fit snugly. I'm going to head to home depot to see what I can find...

Factory hardware. Same exact bolts.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

That looks NICE!
I'll keep trying to get it to fit. In my case, it just seems like the bolt head diameter is too small to grasp the clip and keeps sliding out.
In any regard, I appreciate your help!

Big thanks to tuned8e and myke75 for the help on this, much appreciated. Finally got around to installing these today on my 15' altitude and love how it came out. Fits nice and snug. Next up the roof rack with snowboard attachment.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Ok, finally all caught up. Great write up from Tuned8 and Myke. I am more irritated that the HA does not have rails OR tow hooks. IT'S A JEEP!!!!!!

To be clear, We want functional rails, not black MOLDING.

I have 2016, can I use the same PN as the other WK2 years?

Has anyone tried install with the stock hardware that should be used with the rail, such as the rivnut and screws I have them listed below?

I found these PNs for the FUNCTIONAL Rail:
55079173AK (Left) or 68274551AB (accent color) (not sure what that means
55079172AK (Right) or 68274550AB (accent color)
Rivnut x10 (total or 12?): 06509876AA
Screw Large round washer head lock x10 (or 12?): 06508611AA

It does look like they take different screws and rivnuts. Here is the Parts list for the low profile rack. YES, IT IS TECHNICALLY CALLED 'MOLDING'. I hate you JEEP!
Left molding: 68088703AC
Right Molding: 68088702AC
12x Screw, large round washer head lock M6x1.00x22.00: 06509966AA
12x Nut/Rivet, panel package. 06509106AA (not sure if this is one or many)

Here is the link:
For bright side rail
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Roof Rack

For the current SRT and HA Molding:
Roof Molding

Anyone with these rails stock on your Jeep? Do mind sharing with us a pick of what it looks like when you take off the rail? What are the screws and rivnuts?

So conclusion, based on BOM comparison, they use different rivnuts and screws. Makes me wonder how Jeep did the assembly. Is it easy to remove/replace rivnuts? Also, what do you do with the 6th hole that is not needed? The rail calls for 5, and our HA/SRT has 6 holes.

Is that powdercoated?
Any pointers on the install?

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Nah it's wrapped. Looks perfect though. As for the installation follow the write ups by tuned8e and myke75 and you'll be all set. Really is an easy install. I used the extra hardware that myke75 posted about and worked great. Hope that helps

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Need some help coming to a conclusion on this. Here are my options.
1. Change out to functional roof rack rails and then use Thule Aeroblade Edge 7602 with fit kit 3142 (fixed point) (http://www.rackoutfitters.com/conten...thule-3142.pdf)
2. Just bolt up to existing molding with Whispbar flush bar S25 with fit kit 624. (fixed point)
3. Install functional rail and install MOPAR removable roof rack (PN:82212072AC). Not fixed point, will clamp onto rails. Removable Roof Rack Cross Rails
@Tuned, what rack do you use? Is it fixed or can it slide on the rail and clamp? Is it rigid?
4. Use some other rack

I like the aero racks that don't stick out, and it seems all of them that mount to a flush rail are fixed point. (Meaning you have to remove a few screws that hold in the rail/molding to screw in the rack).

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

I have been summoned to chime in.

I'm glad this thread lives on to help.

So I run the mopar bars. I like them. I can adjust them easily anywhere along the rails I want which is why I still think my setup is the best bar option still.

I originally bought mine on ebay and I'm pretty sure they are knockoff mopar units. The internal hardware ended up rusting out on me after living in Chicago for a while so I ended up replacing everything with stainless. Just keep that in mind when buying from ebay. Obviously you get what you pay for. BUT they are still perfect on the outside. Since replacing the nuts and bolts I have had no problems at all. Also, they are very quite at highway speed.

If you guys use instagram follow me @mr_neeme

Or don't . I won't be mad.

Re: Side Roof Rack Rails - NEED HELP PLEASE..

Anyone with the Mopar Roof Racks, do you mind measuring the cross bar? Thickness and width. I want to see if my Yakima Big Powderhound snowboard/ski rack will fit.

Thanks
