Side Steps - How do I get them off?
Hi Everybody - First post here. Just bought a 2013 Overland and it came with the side steps.
After a couple weeks of eyeballing them, I decided I'd prefer my Jeep without them (they aren't bad - they're just not for me). Popping the actual tubular steps off was easy. The brackets that hold them seem a little trickier...
I tried just unscrewing the three nuts I can see (two horizontal, one vertical), but what to do next isn't obvious to me. The two horizontal bolts slide right out. The vertical bolt must come out in some way I can't see, but it seems like I may have to remove the plastic lower-body molding to get at it?
Some installation notes I found online suggested it wasn't actually necessary to pull the molding to put on the side steps, so I was hoping the reverse was also true and I'd get away without messing with it. I'm less than enthusiastic about popping of the molding myself - seems like it involves lots of small breakable plastic things.
I can take this to a dealer, obviously, but I thought this would be an easy thing to knock out myself. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
(BTW: After I get them off, I'd like to sell them. Anybody in the SLC area want some side steps that are essentially good as new for a nice price?)
