Well we followed the instructions to the letter, applying it after a wash and clay bar in the garage on Saturday morning, about 80 degrees in there, waiting 4 hours, then applying a second coat, and today the Exploder was baking in the sun all day.

To appease my wife during that process and her baby sitting outside I washed and used good ol' Carnuba on it.

No better and for no longer than the absolute cheapest polymer sealant you can purchase and apply yourself. As a matter of fact, there is a product out now that will actually create a semi-perminant coating on the paint surface, its called Optimum Opti-Coat. You can have it applied by a detailer for a very small fraction of what these dealer packages cost. You can also purchase it and apply it yourself, although it requires proper prep beforehand because it is a coating that would have to be compounded off to remove imperfections beneath it.

The only thing compelling is the warranty, and even that there aren't a lot of things that can happen to paint that doesn't involve scratching or chipping (which the warranty won't cover) that would require a repaint.

For instance the bird dropping etching could likely have been removed by wetsanding and buffing, or maybe even just compounding without requiring a repaint. Even if a warranty company is footing the bill, I do everything I can do to try and avoid repainting panels on my cars because they're never the same.

Re: Simonizing

I use a product called liquid glass first time 2 coats then as often as you want. They have a wash product also, but the best thing is it doesn't turn yellow and another nothing sticks on it at least not on my rig. It works really well and lasts. LH PS multable coats make it look even better if there is a swirl it is in the wax and can easly be removed

I have nothing against Simoniz specifically, but as a former professional detailer and now a hobbyist detailer I know what those dealer protection packages truly are, and I know what sorts of products are available to you as a consumer, and to a professional detailer. I know that dealer protection packages offer no paint protection you yourself cannot do with a $25 bottle of Meguiars NXT sealant from PepBoys, difference is they charge $500+. Yes they have a warranty (some of them), but I also know that nothing that would fall under the warranty couldn't be corrected to your satisfaction by a professional detailer for a fraction of what the package costs.

They sell you this stuff and say "you never need to wax again" and thats just not true.

I don't want to see people waste their hard earned money by believing snake oil claims, thats all.

Re: Simonizing

2X on the Meguiars NXT. Best I have found, and I have tried just about everything out there. I use the Mequiars Quik Detailer liquid spray between coats, along with Ultima Waterless Wash Plus and Ultima Detail Spray Plus (works great for getting the bugs off the front bumper without scratching).

Also spent an afternoon recently with the new Mequiars Clay Kit. It comes with 2 clay bars and Quik Detailer. Enough to detail two full cars. Worked great and I was amazed at the difference it made (and I HAD thought my GC was clean, my mistake...).

Re: Simonizing

The Meguiars clay works great, but the per-pound cost is more than a steak at a five-star restaurant. Does anybody sell the clay in bulk?

Re: Simonizing

The Meguiars kit includes:

This kit includes: 2 - Meguiars Clay Bars (160 grams), 1 - 16 oz. Meguiars Quik Detailer, 1- 4 oz. Sample of Meguiars Cleaner Wax and 1 - Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel (16 x 24").

I know people who pay $20 for two beers, some peanuts and a tip.

Of course, it helps that I get Meguiars products at cost through our employee supplier program ....

Re: Simonizing

I totally disagree. I have been using liquid glass since it came out
And with great success. It works and the more coats the better.
It iS also SAFE for Clearcoat and what we call pearl coat
IMHO lionel

Re: Simonizing

Who said anything negative about Liquid Glass? Or said it wasn't clear coat safe?

By the way, there is nothing magic about clear coat. It's just paint that's clear. Pearl coats are just a layer of pearl paint between the color and clear coats. It's just paint.

Re: Simonizing

I live in nova scotia and my wife loves to feed the birds
Not that I like the end result for sure, but I got to live with her so between pigeons starlings blue jays black birds etc. I have extreamly good luck with liquid Glass. I have it done every other month
And wash it with a good wash soap belive it or not turtle wax wash wax works well. Buy a gallon and use more than the directions
Say and you will have no scratches from washing
It helps to float the dirt awayand should help peace out LH

Re: Simonizing

Lowes had Turtle Wax Ice on clearance so I bought some last week. When my carnuba wears off I'll give it a try. Its only one coat where the Liquid Glass is two.
