Skid plate question

My Ltd. is not Trail Rated as the most off road I do is an occasional dirt road. I am thinking about a front skid plate to protect from kicked up stones and ice chunks. While I did not get under the vehicle I did look underneath. There appears to be a shield where I think the front skid plate would be located. I tapped it with my umbrella and it appears to be plastic.

Questions:
Is this shield replaced by the front skid plate or does the skid plate attach in a different location?
Is this shield plastic?

Thanks.

Re: Skid plate question

The plastic stays, the front shield covers the hole between the wheels, and from the plastic back to the cross member.

The shield is steel.

I think if you search for skid plates you will find instructions on the forum somewhere.

Oh, here it is, I just installed the front and transfer case shields over the weekend.
