Skid Plates

I am rapidly closing in on purchasing a slightly used 2015 Summit V-8 (after lots and lots of research...yay)

It has stuff I dont want...DVD player and rear-seat pacifier....uhhmmm errr..."entertainment system"

And it doesnt have stuff that I do want/need....skid plates.

I've spent the day reading through threads on the topic....
I understand that If I were ordering a new GC I could get the skid plate set for $295...awesome if that was what I was doing.
I've read that I can order the plate kit from Mopar for about $400 and install it myself. (a worthy Option, but I dont know how much skill level this would require)
And I understand that I can order the mopar kit and have a dealer install it for a total of around $700 ($300 for installation gives me a hint that it might not be as easy as lifting the rig and bolting on the plates.

I've seen GC compatible skid plates on ebay ranging from $50 for front axel shields to $300 for fuel tank shields.

But I dont know how many plates are in the "set".

I dont know what the plates protect.

And I dont know the difficulty level of self-installing.

Advice? Comments? Insight?

THX

Re: Skid Plates

Here are the mopar plates - front suspension, Xfer case, gas tanks.

Mine came installed, but they're not that difficult to install in general. If you're strong enough you can hold the plates up while bolting, but it's probably better to have a floor jack to support the plate while bolting it in.

Re: Skid Plates

When I bought my 2014 summit they were not a factory option so bought the skids and installed them. They are nothing more than a bolt on that can be done in your driveway, all bolt holes are already there or included, no drilling anything. That said some of them can be a little awkward, but putting quadra lift all the way up and having a floor jack to help steady them as you bolt them does help but not required. It is a total of 5 skid plates with a total weight of 117 lbs. Three part numbers including all five skids.

Fuel Tank (82211999) (includes 2)
Transfer Case (82211994AB) (includes 2)
Front Axle (82211995) (includes 1)

Re: Skid Plates

At a bare minimum I'd recommend the gas tank plates since the tanks are plastic, but just get the whole set.

Re: Skid Plates

Yep...thats my plan. Get em all, dont half-ass it.

Around these parts folks are fond of preaching "go big or go home"

(I spend a lot of time at home )

But not where it comes to protecting a vehicle that is my livelihood and could leave me stranded a long long way from help.

THX all

Is mopar pretty much the only souce for a full set?
