Sourcing color matched parts

So, I have been jonesing to get rid of the exterior chrome parts on my Summit. Up until moments ago, I figured I would either wrap or dip what I have. Now I am thinking about swapping OEM parts that are already painted. I am wondering if anyone can help me. Which JGC models don't have chrome mirrors and handles?

Thank you!

Re: Sourcing color matched parts

The Laredo and Altitude have painted mirror caps. I believe only the Altitude has painted door handles.

The 2015 Summit with California Appearance package also has painted side mirrors along with painted door handles.

It really SUCKS that these items are damn near unobtainium!

We really need a Good Source with Specific Part Numbers for these things.

Re: Sourcing color matched parts

Order a set of mirrors from a Laredo in your color and a set of door handles from an Altitude. I did the same for my Limited. You want the cheapest mirrors you can get since you only need the caps. That's an easy swap. The handles are a bit more involved. I had a local shop do the handles. Send an email to Mike at allmoparparts.com, he will help you out.

Ok, there are like 10 part numbers for the mirrors (all in my color). They range from $149 to $650. What the heck!?

1 1NT49LAUAI POWER MIRROR, LEFT
CODE GTS, GRANITE
$214.00 $149.80

1 5SG36LAUAA POWER MIRROR, LEFT
CODE GYC, W/O BLINDSPOT, GRANITE
$929.00 $650.30

Yup. That's why I suggest seeking the help of one of the Mopar parts dealers. Just explain to them what you want and what you are planning to do.

ETA:

Here are the part numbers I used. Mine were in Max Steel (KAR). Just substitute LAU for Granite.

Mirrors:
1NT48KARAI
1NT49KARAI

Handles:
1QA21KARAH
1QA18KARAH
1SP27KARAC
1MW30KARAE

Why not have your chrome parts painted? I purchased a 2nd rear brow and a set of mirror caps which are currently being painted. Probably much easier than buying whole mirrors and whatnot.

You would have to take a good look at the labor cost of removing, prepping, and painting the parts. As well as putting it all back together. Then of course, you have to hope that they prepped everything properly. Painting plastic chrome parts must be done right.

I got estimates from 2 body shops just to do the handle swap for me. One came in at $500, the other was over $600. Add that to the painting costs and it was not an attractive option. Buying the parts online and having a local custom shop do the handles, it came out to about $450 for everything, doing the mirrors myself.

I'm having a good paint guy paint the parts for me, disassemble and assembly both done by myself. Much cheaper than sourcing new parts for the mechanically inclined like myself.

Re: Sourcing color matched parts

I would agree with that as long as it's something you can do yourself. The mirror caps and rear brow are not difficult. The door handles are another story. It's quite involved and if you have never done it before, you can get into a bit of a mess. I watched mine get done and would probably give it a shot myself if I had to do it again. But, before seeing it done would not attempt it.

Freejersey -

I too have a max steel limited and would like to swap the mirror caps and door handles with matching body color. Seems like there's more part numbers there than there are parts though, do I need all of those?

And for the mirrors is it just the caps or is that for a whole new mirror and then swap the caps?

What was the cost?

Thanks!

That's the right amount of part numbers. 4 handles and 2 mirrors. They don't sell just the mirror caps, so those are complete Laredo mirrors. Just swap the caps. I just did a quick check and with current pricing, you are looking at about $550 for the parts. Seems everything has gone up.
