Re: SRT Grille redux

Ok, maybe im getting my grilles mixed up here but. Your grilles are the true standard SRT8 grilles with the chrome rings. The grilles that the people in the other thread had installed I believe is called the SRT8 Vapor grille. This grille has black rings instead of chrome rings.

Part number in question: 5NK26AXRAB

I asked the ebay seller if this would be a direct fit for my car and he says it is not the SRT8 Vapor Grille but rather the Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude Grille and yes it would be a direct replacement for my 2013 Laredo. Its hard to see in the picture but it does have the black rings. I thought those were just for the SRT8? I thought the Altitude was a black grille but didn't have the rings?

Like I said maybe I'm just confusing grilles?

Re: SRT Grille redux

That part number is for an SRT vapor/alpine grille, not an altitude. PN for altitude is 1ZW79DX8AA (black) or 1ZW79AXRAA (brilliant black).

Re: SRT Grille redux

Exactly that is why im so sketched out about this grille and how its claimed to be a perfect fit for 2013 JGC Laredo.

Re: SRT Grille redux

Hasn't been my experience that eBay vendors are a good source of tech expertise on this kind of question. If you are really looking for the altitude part I'd make sure you're buying on the basis of part number only.

Re: SRT Grille redux

I am really wanting the vapor SRT8 grille: 5NK26AXRAB

I'm just confused because on the thread linked here:

Help new 2013 grand cherokee trim modifications

Two members said they purchased this very same srt8 vapor grille and said that installation was no problem, fit right up no struggle, pretty much plug and play. I wrote one of the members a private message asking about it in details but haven't gotten a reply yet.

Ultimately I guess it doesn't really matter one way or the other, if it needs some sort of modification to make it fit, I will just go that route. I have removed my fascia a ton of times when I did the 2014 fog light retrofit into my 2013Laredo. And already did the SRT8 BiXenon swap out so, ill make it happen would just love to know if there is a difference in installing the regular srt8 grille with chrome rings (which everyone seems to be in agree-ance that it needs some sort of modification/force fit) and in installing the srt8 vapor grille (which in the thread listed above, members says it fits fine).

Im just over thinking it...im gonna get the SRT8 Vapor Grille and report back on the install.

Re: SRT Grille redux

There you go. I hemmed and hawed about how to do the install, too. Maybe the moral of this thread & the others is that it can be done either way and still come out looking great.

Yes, my install went well. Def not just plug and play. Same experience with the SRT8 grille support/backing. It fit right on and bolted right up. The issue is when trying to fit the fascia back on over the srt8 grille. It gets held up in the corners by the grill edges, as the srt8 backing/support seems to be larger in this area and doesnt allow the fascia to wrap all the way around the front end, so you cant fasten the very end clips by either of the wheel wells. I traded out backings/supports. I used my Laredo support and the fascia fit back like a glove. Only thing is like it was said before, the bottom clips on the srt8 grille face do not engage on the laredo grille backing/support. But i feel like if the bottom clips were engaged the body lines would not match up. Just used some black rubber stoppers and some 3m automotive tape, placed between the face and the backing to fill the gap so when u press on the grille it doesn't flex. And as far as the top clips not being enough to secure the grille face, it was a bitch to unclip those to remove and attache the srt8 grille face, idk but i dont think those could ever disengage through vibration or anything.
