SRT underbody shield on other non-SRT Grand Cherokees

I was browsing pictures of WK2 exhaust systems and noticed the SRT comes with a rear underbody shield that basically covers that huge opening between the rear axle and the bumper. It looks very clean and I'm sure helps aerodynamically which I would imagine is what it was designed for. Even though the benefits might be minimal, it seems like a great idea and I was wondering if anyone knows if it can be relatively easily added to non-SRT models? Looks to be nothing more than a large plastic panel held in place by push pins. I looked it up and it's only $62 bucks online. Seems like that huge opening in the back would be a trap for air and creat all sorts of drag. Maybe this can be beneficial? Looks good anyway :-)
Anybody else ever think about this? I probably should just buy an SRT lol

I like your thinking, not sure of its effectiveness or compatibility but I'm curious..

It seems it ties to the bumper. At least mine doesn't have the holes for the clips nor does it seem to reach that far inward.

Maybe doing a little modding on the trim and it might work?

That is interesting I never realized they had that. Do you have the part number I'd like to take a close look? I wonder if it's for aerodynamics or to keep the look clean?

Being an SRT I would imagine mostly aerodynamic and partially the clean look. Obviously it's not visible unless you're under the car though.
I glanced under my '14 Summit and it appears this panel might just be 100% plug and play. It seems that the Summit bumper wraps far enough under that it just might work perfectly. Only thing I can see is add a couple holes for the push pins and it might be good to go. I can't speak for the Overland/Limited/Laredo bumpers though.
If you glance under your non-SRT WK2 that area is enormous and almost looks like it could literally just scoop tons of air. For 60 some bucks I would be willing to add this panel. Certainly can't hurt anything.
Part number is: 68087807ac

Here are some pictures from under my 14' Summit. I can only imagine how turbulent this makes the air. Yeah yeah I know it's just a car, but my career is based around aviation so I can't help but think aerodynamically and about smooth air flow :-)

I was looking at my summit also and that is a big void under there and considering where the exhaust and the bumper are it doesn't do anything for ground clearance or approach angle. They could have given that storage space where the spare tire is a lot more room if they would have lowered it and taken up some of that space. Seems like wasted space like it is.

Attachment points near the differential are probably the same but I'm not seeing how/where the attachment points are on the bumper. I did notice the bumper cover attachment point on the summit does have two unused holes on it. wonder if they designed that in and then decided not to use it same as they did the missing door on the hemi belly pan?

"Yeah yeah I know it's just a car, but my career is based around aviation so I can't help but think aerodynamically and about smooth air flow :-)" If your car is also one of your hobbies not just an A to B device then nothing wrong with putting time into your hobby, that's the way I think about it anyway when I do things to my car that other people would never think of or waste time on.

You may be right it may fit on any same as skid plates will fit on any?

Not sure how accurate this is but it does show it fitting 81 Grand Cherokee variants between 2012-2015 under the fitment section of the part number.

Re: SRT underbody shield on other non-SRT Grand Cherokees

I'm not seeing the two unused holes you are speaking of. There are two push and twist clips, but those are used to remove the trailer hitch cover panel.

The attachment points aren't on the Summit bumper, but what I'm saying is that based off pictures it appears the SRT and Summit bumpers have the same shape where the underbody panel would attach. So all I'm saying is that it might possibly be as easy as drilling a couple holes in the forward most part of the underside of the bumper and might just be plug and play.
It looks like the SRT bumper has those same two pieces that go up from the bumper and attach it to the frame (as seen in my pictures). If that's the case the dimensions are basically the same and it should work.

I circled the 2 unused holes on the bumper cover attachment points. I imagine they don't match up with anything if the cover is SRT specific but may be able to make use of them.
