Re: SRT8 Grill on Non-SRT8 GCs... first try.

If i was keeping my window trim chrome i would have went with the standard srt8 grille, but i am gettin them painted brilliant black same as the vehicle, so went with the vapor. And if u put the two grilles side by side srt8 and non srt....they look nothing alike.

Re: SRT8 Grill on Non-SRT8 GCs... first try.

Looking to do this to my '11 Limited. I'm about to pull the trigger and order 2012 SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Grill in Brilliant Black, Bright Silver, Deep Cherry Red or Tungsten Silver #WK2SRT8Grille

KJPECHO, thank you for the detailed write up on your install. I'm going to try to keep the SRT8 backing and trim the grill rather than my bumper. That way, I can always put my old grill back on without having a trimmed bumper.

I'm trying to find anyone else that has done an install like this because I'd like to gather all the information that I can before I drop the cash on the SRT grill.

Thanks!

Re: SRT8 Grill on Non-SRT8 GCs... first try.

Well after a day of work with help from a buddy, I ended up going with stock backing and the SRT facia. We could not get it to fit no matter how much we ground off of the grill. At this point, I'm just going to find a new stock fitting mesh grill backing to match the lower valance and keep the SRT8 facia and have it painted body color. When they say the SRT8 grill doesn't fit, they mean it.

The fit-up looks great! Nicely Done! Did you experience the same thing with the spacing between SRT Decorative Front and stock backing? Once you get it painted its going to look real nice! There are a few threads on here about this SRT8 Grille...some of the users have said their fitup with SRT8 fascia & backing was plug and play (no issue fitting the bumper back over the grille). I don't see how that is possible, unless they took it to a body shop and got it professionally fitted like Rlinder did (creator of this thread). Then they wouldn't know if there were any issues with the fit up, which could explain why they said theirs fit with no problems.

Re: SRT8 Grill on Non-SRT8 GCs... first try.

Yeah, the SRT8 backing bolted up perfectly fine, but as others have confirmed, the bumper will not fit over the SRT8 backing. I took a ton of pics during the process and my buddy and I couldn't figure out where it was binding. I was hoping to return to this thread with good news, but unfortunately I didn't. If you lay the bumper on the ground face down, the stock backing literally falls into place. If you try to lay the SRT8 backing onto the bumper, there's an obvious curvature difference. The bottom of the SRT8 backing is also higher than the stock backing, so it doesn't completely seat on the support bracket in the center of the grill frame.

And yes, I am going to leave the plate off. I live in WI and we're required to have it, but I've ran 2 different vehicles for 10 years without front plates and haven't been pulled over for it. I was pulled over for speeding a few years back and the cop briefly mentioned the plate. He said to get one on, but never gave a me a warning or anything for it.

As for the SRT8 decorative grill, there is some give on either lower corner. It's really not bad, but I will probably attach some small rubber stops behind it. You wouldn't notice this unless you pushed on it because the body lines match up perfectly.

Unfortunately, I ground the hell out of the SRT8 backing, to the point where I don't know if it's useable anymore. I'd find a spot where it would bind, grind it off and then another spot would be binding. Next weekend I think I'll give it another shot. Otherwise, I'll just get the altitude grill backing and use that with the SRT8 decorative front. I think that'll still look really sharp. I really think that's the best option for anyone like me that wanted less chrome than the stock grill, but still wanted some chrome like the SRT8 grill. If you really want the honeycomb of the SRT8....you're in for a ton of work....

Nope, not mineral grey....just unpainted plastic from Mopar. The sad thing is, there would have been almost no effort to do what I did. To replace the front fascia, you don't even need to remove the bumper. Just snap the decorative grill out and snap the SRT one in. But, it still looks nice!

Are you absolutely sure? Everyone else's removed the bumpers too get to it.

No bolts holding the grill?

I'll need to check it out when I get my car back from the panel beater, in for hail damage so hood is getting painted.

Yeah, the decorative front simply snaps into the grill backing. If you look at this pic, you see many plastic tabs. Those just get pushed into the grill backing and snap into place. I was able to pull my stock decorative piece off by hand without removing the bumper. Someone could just steal it unfortunately....but it must not be too much of an issue. While it can be pulled off by hand, there is some finesse that must be used. I find that the new SRT8 decorative grill piece is easier to snap out than the stock. Also, not all the tabs snap in when you're using the SRT8 decorative piece with the stock backing, but it's plenty to hold it in place.
