Re: SRT8 Steering Wheel Installed

To those actually interested in this post below are shots of the new shift knob installed.

As moose noted you carefully pry the chrome collar at the bottom of the knob down until it seperates from the rest of the shifter. There is then a small metal retaining clip that is accessable from the passenger side of the Jeep on the lower base of the knob that needs to be removed with pliers. Once thats removed it just pulls off easily. Repeat in reverse and you end up with this:

Honestly man, your not making any friends here. If your just going to come into the WK2 section to stir the pot I suggest you go back under whatever rock you crawled out from. (WJ Forum?)

This will be my last response to any of your posts until you have something valid to add to the conversation.
1) I don't mean to deliberately "stir the pot", I was just curious about the addition that you made and the reasoning behind it.

2) I apologize if my last several posts have leaned into the territory of negativity... so that I'm sorry for.

3) Don't get so offended when someone disagrees or questions a mod or addition that you do. Not everyone rubber stamps approval.

4) I think your WK2 looks great in it's current form and I guess I should be more welcoming of mods.

Re: SRT8 Steering Wheel Installed

The negativity is the only reason I had an issue with your last few posts. I'm on here fairly often and have never seen you around before so when your first posts in the forum are in DIY posts saying things like "your effort was half-assed" or "why your trying to make your Jeep something it's not" it easy to understand why you might not be so welcomed.

The WK2 section is for the most part free from put-downs and chest pounding and I think the majority of us would like to keep it that way. I couldn't really care less about what you think my reasoning was behind the mod nor am I looking for a stamp of approval. The sole purpose of my posts is to share info with other owners/enthusiasts who might be looking to do the same.

Moving on...

I think you confuse tips with questions. Regarding LaRue Tactical, I thought it might have been an Airsoft company.

I would imagine, it's a subjective opinion so I would think so.

It's all cool, I can understand that. The addition of the SRT8 steering wheel, is it primarily for looks or does it add some functionality as well?

Oy......... mainly for looks and a slightly different feel as the shape of the wheel is different than the standard wheel. Plus some may not care for the wood that comes with the overland wheel...Im sure everyone has his or her own reasons.

Re: SRT8 Steering Wheel Installed

LOL. Getting back on topic.

So I was looking at my wheel and wondering, can you take the two wheels apart and merge them together? I mean, can you take apart your original wheel and put in the srt wheel part only into the original guts so you keep your switches and backer plastic? Would it fit or does the SRT section at the bottom not fit because its flat? I'll know soon when I get my wheel in the mail just wondering ahead of time.

Re: SRT8 Steering Wheel Installed

Nope, it definitly won't swap. All of the metal you see on the front of the SRT wheel is actually made up of a single piece. Because of that the back side covers are totally different than the stock wheel which is all one piece. The leather on the SRT also bridges across the spokes to the centre of the wheel so your either holding leather or metal - no plastic at all. Love it!
