Stainless VS Aluminum side steps

Anybody have these on their WK2? I like the look of these and the Mopar chrome side steps. I'm concerned that the Mopar aluminum side steps will rust. Anyone had that problem? I live in the north east and my Jeep will see lots of road salt. These are Westin 4" oval polished stainless steel side steps.

The aluminum could see some pitting from the salt, but not rust. But a good wheel wax treatment every so often should prevent most of the pitting. Chrome can also be problematic in a salty environment. Stainless is probably the best way to go, although I would also wax it regularly to protect the finish.

Re: Stainless VS Aluminum side steps

Thanks for the input. I keep changing my mind about getting the Mopar side steps or aftermarket similar looking versions like the Westin side steps. I guess it doesn't matter as long as I take precautions to prolong the life of the product.

Re: Stainless VS Aluminum side steps

I just put them on my 2011 and I love the looks. I just put a coat of wax on them, and if you keep up with them you should have no problems. But I do love the looks of them on the jeep they set you apart from the rest.

I finally bought the Mopar chrome side steps. Thought about less expensive alternatives but decided a few more dollars would not make a difference and I would regret getting something that I didn't like. It's not as if you can try them on for a few days while you decide if you like them or not. I also attached a photo of my WK2 with the original 18" wheels. I bought four 20" OEM wheels on ebay for 1.000.00(shipping included). Put new Good Year Fotera's on for another $725.00 ,mounting and balancing included.
The side steps were $700.00 installed by the dealer. I thought about putting them on myself but for two hundred bucks I had them professionally installed. I'm only adding the prices I paid because it's usually the first thing I want to ask when I see something I like. I know it's not anything special with stock upgrades but that's the look I'm going for. I had a Commander for five years before this and I never went off roading so there is no need for all the cool mods I see being done on this site. Sorry the pictures are all over the place but I'm learning.
