Stop/tail bulb 3157 27/7w

I couldn't find many places have these wedge bulbs on shelf, when I did it was not Sylvania bulbs so I bought them anyway.

The tail light works fine, but the stop lights on the new bulb is delayed by like half a millisecond. Theoretically it has no effect other than annoyance to me.

How on earth can a bulb cause such delay effect if its just a simple element on/off...

That's what I'd like but there isn't anything that is not off eBay china. Have you found something reliable or perhaps made by a reputable make?

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/le...ght-bulbs.html

Requires ballast resistors to prevent the fast flash syndrome.

I've been running them for over a month now with no issues.

I just picked up another bulb from a jeep dealer which was not a Sylvania - it too has a slight delay on stop light, compared to the originals.

Which ballast did you get and where did you hide the ballast? I have a 2012

Re: Stop/tail bulb 3157 27/7w

I'm really not understanding this slight delay. I mean, when a bulb receives 12 volts it lights up.

Exactly that.

I watch the rear view mirror and hit the brake pedal. The reflection on my garage door of both lamps left and right differs.

Unless the optic nerves in my eyes is busted, the left hand stop light(new) lights up half a millisecond later than the right hand side stop light does.

Amazon, pretty much any 50watt 6ohm ballast resistor.
You need a pair, one for each side.

I also used a Curt trailer light harness to make the install 'plug n play' instead of cutting/splicing into the OEM wire harness.

With the Curt trailer harness, I cut it into 2 individual harnesses, and soldered the resistors onto the end and then plugged them into the OEM harness and dropped them down between the rear bumper cover and the body and then bolted them to a pinch weld just in front of the hitch.

The resistors get hot, so by bolting them to the pinch weld it allows the heat to radiate into the body metal.

Oh, and my Acme RedRocket LED bulbs are pretty much instantaneous when they light up... Hence the reason to go to LEDs instead of the regular/normal incandescent bulbs.
