In my experience with grays and silvers, you will not get a perfect match. I would leave as is.

I stopped by a Jeep dealer today and they offered to try and buff the spot out. Not sure if you guys can see what I'm talking about from the picture. The guy that looked at it said it's a scuff mark from the assembly plant. Hopefully buffing it out works, if not I think I'll leave it alone as I'm not sure if having them re-paint it will cause a different issue.

Is the texture any different? If its all perfectly smooth, it's likely an inperfection in the base coat which was covered with the clear. If that's the case, repainting is the only option.

If there is a texture difference, it's in the clear coat, and anyone who knows what they're doing with a buffer and/or wet sanding should be able to make it unnoticeable.

To me there is no difference in the texture and it's just as glossy as the rest of the paint which makes me think it's under the clear coat. If it was a scuff mark like he says I'd think it wouldn't shine like it does. Hopefully they can buff it out but if not they said they would submit a warranty claim on it. I don't like the idea of them having to mess with the paint though. Would they only repaint that one spot and then have to hope they blend it in well enough to not notice? I guess it wouldn't look any worse than it does though lol, ugh.

Re: Summit Granite Paint

I have a 14 granite limited about 3 weeks old, not sure where you can find born on date but they just got it off the the train when I went to look at it.

While I was at Starbucks the light hit my front fender just right and it was so bad I thought my car had been hit
. Once I got close to the car the fender is perfectly straight just a major tiger stripe.

I don't think they have made any improvements yet.

Re: Summit Granite Paint

This was a 8/26 build date '14 Summit Hemi Granite that I rejected soley because of this hood paint flaw. I keep my Jeeps 12-14 yrs and no way I was letting anyone bust into factory clear/paint on day one...the 11/6 build date Deep Cherry Red that replaced it has perfect paint!

Re: Summit Granite Paint

Seems like a waste of time to reject a vehicle and wait months for a new one because of a paint flaw on a hood that would take 15 minutes to swap out.

Why would the dealer not simply swap hoods?

Re: Summit Granite Paint

Are these diesels that rare in other parts of the country? I had my choice of about 10 different ones between the dealers in my area (Phoenix). Granted it's a major city.

uhhh, they could order a replacement one.

if you need a new wheel, they don't need to take one from another jeep on the lot.

I don't believe you can order hoods pre-painted.

You do realize body panels don't come painted. Some folks are fine with letting a local dealer paint shop "replicate and match" metallic paint on a hood on a $55k vehicle that will spend 250,000 miles over 12 years getting hammered by Cleveland roads and salt. I, sir, am not one of them.

You are probably the person that strolled in and bought the Jeep that I rejected and are just fine with your purchase. Your $48k, your choice.
