Summit Granite Paint

Does anyone have a granite JGC Summit with paint issues? I noticed a mottled texture and something that resembles tiger stripes in the paint when in sunlight. Put it under florescent bulbs and it was even more noticeable.

Re: Summit Granite Paint

Must be very uncommon for a Factory Paint defect, how did it pass QC inspection?

Re: Summit Granite Paint

In the bright sun it looks awesome. In the shade it is not so awesome.
Only on the hood and doors. If I push it the dealer will send it to the body shop. However, I am not willing to take the chance that the match will be perfect. I guess I am stuck with it.
In talking to some folks much smarter than I am, the consensus seems to be that clear coat when applied to metallic paint that has not completely dried will create this effect.

So it would seem that all of my issues with my JGC Summit have been fixed. With the exceptiin off the crazy paint. The dealer insists its perfect. I don't see anything perfect about it. Additionally I admit I am reluctant to have 2 doors, a hood a parts of the roof repainted.x; Kinda big gamble that the finish will be an exact color and texure match. On top of that I will have to convince future buyers that they don't see what they are seeing. So after giving this a lot of thought......I was thinking that gettig a good trade in pruce for the exixting jeep.....were I to do it at the same dealer who assures me that it looks great as it is. So because I love this damn thing I am considering trading it in on a newer build. Then the bugs will have been worked out the I would.then potentiallially trade it in on a later build withou so many issues and with a cheaper monthly payment.
I know I will lose a couple grand in the transaction. I can live with that. Any smart folks have any ideas? Love my jeep would love a better one even more. Need advice. Thanks.

Re: Summit Granite Paint

The paint won't be an issue in 4 yrs when you sell it...

If you don't worry about the paint not matching... You have a warranty, use it! If it doesn't match it is on them. If your service department doesn't want to submit, go to another dealer.

Don't trade it in!!

Re: Summit Granite Paint

I've noticed the same thing. Have you had a chance to bring it back to the dealer?

Initially the dealer said they couldn't see anything. Now they can see it. The only option is repainting the whole drivers side, roof, and hood. Considering the dealer painting process is different than the factory I fear it may make things worse. Not to mention the amount of time I would be without my vehicle. Even if the paint job came out good what would it look like in a year or two?

Re: Summit Granite Paint

I would have the dealer fix the paint if it bothers you that much. I have learned to live with mine. I too was considering trading for another 14 with a latter build date but finally I'm getting most of the bugs worked out.
Trading a 14 for a 14 you would probably loose close to 10 grand this early in the year so you might want to have the paint issue taken care of.

Good point about losing out by trading in on the same year. Maybe I should trade for a 2015 summit at the same dealer. Then they can't complain about the paint.

Hi, I have a 2014 GC Overland with Granite exterior and it's a recent build. Overall the paint is okay, not perfect but I can live with it. The only exception is an odd spot above the front passenger side door frame. I initially thought it might be some leftover residue from the factory or from shipping but when I washed it for the first time on Saturday I realized it was actually a paint finish issue. I took a couple of pictures but it's hard to get it to show well in a photo so hopefully you can tell what I'm talking about but it's really obvious in person. Does this look like something a Jeep dealer can correct? It almost looks like the paint was smeared before the clear coat was applied ?

Mine is the same. Personally I would leave it alone. IMO, I actually think it looks unique.
