Summit Seat Comfort

Love the new Summit diesel as a potential replacement for my first gen Cadillac SRX, the most comfortable car I've ever owned. Want to go back to Jeep like my 99 Grand Cherokee Limited. BUT, like the Car and Driver editors in this road test comparison
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2014-jeep-grand-cherokee-summit-ecodiesel-4x4-vs-2013-volkswagen-touareg-tdi-2013-mercedes-benz-ml350-bluetec-4matic-2013-porsche-cayenne-diesel-2013-bmw-x5-xdrive35d-comparison-test
I found the Summit seats to be a torture chamber. A half hour in them and my back is screaming in pain. Anybody know what's wrong with them (is it the ventilation feature?) and if they can be "rebuilt" or customized to fix the problem? Otherwise I have to go ML Bluetec which is more comfortable yet can be optioned to be like the Summit, albeit a tad pricy.

Re: Summit Seat Comfort

The seats in the summit aren't pillows but with all the adjustments I've been very comfortable. Including driving to Florida and back, nonstop each way except for one fuel stop down and one stop returning to Maryland.

Re: Summit Seat Comfort

Superb seats in our Overland. Firm, supportive, and very adjustable. Can't imagine Summit seats differ other than type of leather surface.

Re: Summit Seat Comfort

My guess is that you didn't take advantage of all the adjustments.

That said, the bolsters make the seats seem narrower until they get broken in a bit. And, the Jeep seats are not cushy marshmallows like you find in some luxury models.

If you can't find a comfortable position, I wouldn't try to have them rebuilt, but would move on.

NARROW????????
These are the flattest widest seats I have ever been in.
I even found the SRT seats to be quite wide and they are supposed to be sporty supportive.
Maybe it is a US vs rest of the world thing.

Re: Summit Seat Comfort

Socialist meccas like Australia, NZ and Canada see the US as a bunch of fat whining complainers who just sit in front of their TVs eating MCds and KFC and growing fatter. Thats because everyone knows these socialist meccas all have citizens who are healthier and skinnier because of their wonderful healthcare systems and have very low smoking rates. They believe rugby is superior to the NFL which it is. They are also believe they are morally superior and safer than us poor souls here in the US because they have strict gun control. As a result Americans are fatter and dont fit in the seats in their vehicles and die from gun violence.

Now I am going to the local gun show right after I have a double quarter pounder, a supersize coke, and supersize fries. On the way home I pick up a 20pc KFC and some mashed potatoes with gravy for dinner. I watch a replay of qualifying for the Daytona 500 and laugh cause everyone NASCAR drivers can only turn left and dont race in the rain.

It could be you are correct. Years ago the New York City MTA bought a bunch of new subway cars that were made in Japan. They were fitted with semi-molded fiberglass seats. They had to take the cars out of service for a few months to replace the seats, because everyone complained the seats were too narrow.

When I mentioned the narrow seats to the first Jeep salesman I spoke to, he said "That's why the bolsters are adjustable". I didn't buy my Jeep from him.

I can still remember back in college in the late 70's playing rugby against the Aussie embassy staff and friends. Had a great time with the two Aussie embassy girls who wanted to play nurse later that night.

Australia only has one great export hot Aussie babes. Why do the leave Australia Snuke??? All the Australia babes I know mention something about the men down under getting lost when going down and not having packages that meet their size requirements.

I watch pretty much all kinds of racing but find this line the funniest. How many drivers nowadays make the transition from formula one, indy, cart, to nascar? How many have actually made it? I will leave Danica out of it because she wasn't a top tier driver in open wheel either but look at juan montoya, sam hornish, Jacques Villeneuve, Paul Tracy, Scott Speed, Kimi Raikkonen, Scott Pruett, Dario Franchitti, Christian Fittipaldi, Patrick Carpentier. All of them tried to make it in Nascar and failed horribly.
I don't think there is any one form of racing better thsn another but before you make a blanket statement you better be able to back it up.
Go on YouTube and watch Tony Stewart Lewis Hamilton seat swap. It is pretty funny to watch someone go from Formula one where you have traction control and such to Nascar where you have nothing, especially in the rain.
