sunroof or no sunroof???

So I am split a liitle, looking a WK2's and have the option of either having one or not.

Part of me likes the idea of solid steel up top, less wind noise, no leaks, no creaks and such.
Part of me likes being able to open the top on the wifes car and enjoy some sunshine, but I think more often than not the shade is closed anyways.

I dont like the standard sunroof so it will be either the panoramic roof or none at all.

Thoughts?
Do you dislike the sunroof on yours and had to do it again would option for a solid roof?

I've been pleasantly surprised with how trouble/noise/rattle free the pano sunroof has been. With about 34K miles, just quiet.

The pano is nice, but only the front of the two windows opens, which is enough.

With it closed, the padding on the Overland and above makes it silent and unnoticeable. With the shade open on really cold nights, you do notice the colder closed window above you but not to any degree.

No clue if it helps resale as I bought it to run the wheels off so don't care.

On one hand I like having the sunroof to be able to crack it open (vent) on freezing rain or blizzard driving days because then I can crank up the heat to the defroster to keep the windshield clear (and a lot of the hot air vents out the top rather than building up inside).

On the other hand, at 6'3" I would really love to have more head room inside my GC.

Re: sunroof or no sunroof???

My wife and I looked at a '13 Overland and a '13 TrailHawk. The lack of the sunroof on the TrailHawk was an objection she had to overcome. We chose the TH, but she does wish it had a sunroof after owning it for 2 months.

Re: sunroof or no sunroof???

I have a 14 SRT with no Pano/Sunroof and my buddy has a 14 Overland with the Pano...his has been rattling for months now and has about 17k miles. My 08 had a sunroof and leaked then would only tilt (not open). I must say that I do not miss having a sunroof and am glad my SRT does not have one...less things to go wrong and the solid roof is a lot easier to wax. Just my 0.02

That big panoramic glass was a concern for me when we were comparing. Of course, I ended up with the QuadraLift system, which may be just as bad.

Re: sunroof or no sunroof???

I have an Overland and the Pano has been fine, actually the quietest Vehichle I have ever owned.

I have also had two other mopars with factory sunroof and never had a problem with them.

I do clean the channels the roller mechanism ride on by opening the sunroof, clean the chanel with a towel and then re-lube it.

As a precaustion though I did find a PT and WJ as donors and pulled the sunroofs out so I have spares

+1 here, everything lstowell said except for I have 18K not 34. My wife really wanted the pano, I could take it or leave it, but now that we have it I really like it too. She still loves it. Quiet, no leaks and I take it off road on uneven terrain and an obstacle at Hollister Hills (local 4X4 playground) called "Frame Twister" and it has been solid and quiet.

I too bought mine to run the wheels off of it. I'm 53 years young - might this be the last car I ever own? I'm 6'0" and there's plenty of head room, baseball hats and all.

Get it!

Re: sunroof or no sunroof???

My last 3 vehicles have had sunroofs.

The 2005 Toyota 4Runner was the first & I agonized over the decision. There wasn't a lot of headroom in that vehicle to begin with and the sunroof made it even worse (I'm 6'1"). But I quickly learned to LOVE that sunroof. I live in Southern California and use it all the time.

Both my 2012 & 2015 Overlands also had sunroofs. Neither has given me any issues so far. I love being able to brighten up the interior by opening the sun shade. And on nice days, opening the sunroof glass lets in some additional air, which is very nice.

At this point, I wouldn't purchase a vehicle without a sunroof.

May we suggest a classic French treatment for reducing your height a bit?

Re: sunroof or no sunroof???

Every car that I ever had with a sunroof, I had because it was standard with a particular car or trim level. They have all been trouble free, but also rarely used.

If I had my druthers I would go without. If I enjoyed them, I would go for the panoramic.
