Talk me out of this first mod.....

Talk me out of the first mod I am contemplating.

My GC Overland "should" arrive soon. I am thinking, as an early first mod, to install the Mopar Rock Rails. I have a friend who owns a body shop and will get the rock rails at his cost. My thought is to have him paint them the same color as the GC, True Blue. I do not have an issue with the PITA installation, sounds like fun to me. Any thoughts on installation just after delivery or painting of the rock rails would appreciated.

Installing the rock rails after purchase shouldn't be too much of an issue, just get everything aligned and the bolts started beforehand. Use the outside bolts first, then you can use jack stands or someone to help you lift the rails for proper alignment. It is a time consuming process for sure, so take your time and get it right.

I think the rails have a satin black finish - painting them body color may be a little problematic but definitely doable. The rails get a little slick when wet or covered with snow, so if you paint them it could make them possibly slicker, I am not sure about that.

Have you sourced the rock rails to make sure they'll be available? Sometimes they are in short supply.

Good luck, I have put these on 2 jeeps and loved them for their utility and looks. Yeah they are a PITA to install but so worth it afterwards, you can even show them off better with different tires, etc.

Post some pics when you're done.

You will regret that purchase!

That's the best I can do to try to talk you out of them.

Am I missing something here? Big blank space...

So far, no "help" talking me out of them. Really, any drawbacks?

It should be possible to imbed a traction surface in the top portions of the paint as it is done. Although a nice two tone look with a slightly different color for any traction surface area would help with feet placement--and probably look cool.

Pot hole rails, that would be great.
Why, I like the looks. Maybe as a step to clean the top of the GC.
Off-road, yeah, some, not too serious, but some. I would like to do some of the TAT (Trans American Trail) in the future. Probably not this summer, but maybe next summer.
As far as looks, I do not think they change the looks like other mods would. We will see what the future brings.
They may also offer protection from other doors.

Hey if you like it. Go for it! I have had my jeep for a year and I have been constantly working on it and modding it. I have seen some jeeps and they look awesome with the rugged look.. And are you really from Chicago? Or a close suburb.. LoL jk
