Just installed these yesterday. Thule ARB47 AeroBlade Load Bars, 460R Rapid Podium Foot Pack and KIT4019 fit kit. The AeroBlades are powder coated black.
I have the bars spread as far front and back as they will go. Used a little dB app on my iPhone before and after. Noted about a 2dB increase at highway speeds. I can hear a bit of wind noise but by no means annoying. Suspect when I put my kayak cradles up things will get a lot noisier.
Read this thread and find out more. I have no noise at all with my bars install. There is pictures and comments on what did I do to help on that and help other find the spot. http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=24916
Yeah, those are a great set up! I surf, so those would work great! Question, do you need to cover the blades with foam or some other "cushion" between them and whatever your strapping down to them? I see alot of swimming pool foam tubes being used. They work great, just look cheesy is all. And how much weight can each one carry?
I would agree with nonopr01, the rubber strip along the top of the aerobar would be the contact point with a surfboard I expect. Thule does have quite a selection of brackets specifically for surfboards. The most common simply looks like the pads such as the one here. In terms of load capacity it looks like 165 lbs per pair and Thule claims they are the strongest bars with a vertical load test of more than 800 lbs. Not something I would want to test myself.
