Didn't have time to do the third brake light or the reflectors but right now I THINK that is what is throwing me off, something just doesn't look right and I've always loved tinted tail lights. It's either the third/reflectors not being tinted yet or the chrome around the tail lights is just too bright next to the darker tail lights.
Even with the third light and reflectors done should I paint the chrome around the tail lights black of leave them as is, kinda my dilemma right now.

tint the other 3 lights and paint or wrap the chrome and it will look way better.

If you are going tint the tails I would say have them professionally done.

I used night shades on my brothers 5 series about the same darkness you did a few years back with a nice coat of clear coat. And it fades back to stock after two years.

No need to do have it done by someone else if you know what your doing.

I didn't sand the lens before painting, never have. Put two coats of the vht on then 4-5 coats of clear. Knocked it down with 1000, then 1500 then polished them. No interest in doing the backup lens'. Just gotta get rid of the chrome and do the other lights.

After completing my education with a BS from the University of Google and a visit to a couple tint shops I have decided to do what you did; two coats of NightShades on everything on the rear end. Smokey enough to knock the edge off the bright red plastic, not too dark to attract the attention of my local law enforcement.

I love tinted tails, always have, but at this point I've got to say I really prefer vinyl. It's easier, generally looks cleaner, super simple return to stock, and leaves the light in whatever condition it was in before it was applied. Your light look like they are hardly tinted last time I used vht I believe i went with 4 coats if I'm not mistaken. Anyway heres mine (coincidentally before I had finished off the reflectors and 3rd brake for comparison) done with vinyl
