Ok, so my 2011 Laredo X does not have it, but I WANT IT! If I go and order a set of Limited side mirrors, with the turn signals built in, is the harness available in my Laredo door you think? Any ideas are welcome!
I think he means in the mirror part, like a Ford, and I don't think it does that on any model. There's a blinker at the base of the mirror that shows to the front.
On my Limited, four leds across the bottom of the mirrors blink when turn signal is engaged. Its possible that there is a connector in that harness just waiting for that, not sure.
Interesting...do they blink all at once, or do they blink sequentially? And you do mean in the mirror glass, and not in the outside bottom of the housing?
If your able to follow the wire harness up to the mirror, check to see if there is more spots then wires in the connector or wires that aren't being used?
Scottina is right, it is the outside I'm referring to. I will go to the dealer today and see wha they have to say. based on my earlier comms with them I don't have high hopes...
Just curious, but why do you want to add these to the mix? I guess it's a slight safety issue, but I see more value in the Ford stuff that shows the turn in the mirror for folks alongside you.
well, I'm not sure about how exactly it looks on the GC, but on other cars the LED's can be spotted from the side, rear and from the front so the situational awareness increases dramatically for the folks around you.
Correct, the blinker will be spotted by cars driving aside of you. The leds bend with the curve of the mirror and the outside one is also visible from the side.
So were you able to figure out how to install these? I also have a Laredo and would like the blinkers. I don't really want to buy a whole new mirror housing, but maybe just the bottom portion that has the blinker part to it. Will all the wiring be there? or will I need to run extra wires?
Also, anyone know of a way to install power folding mirrors after the fact?
you can replace the chrome casing with your painted casing very easy. Tilt the mirror all the way to the inside and then pull gently on the glass and it pops off. Fold the mirror in and remove the one screw on the outside. Fold back out and release the four tabs holding the chrome casing on....then just push your painted casing back in making sure the tabs lock. then add screw and mirror glass back on. Easy 10 minute job. The mirror doesnt even have to be removed.
Yes I meant power folding and yes I know they are not US standard... give it a few years and I am sure it will be. I'd be interested to see if the non-US power-folding mirrors actually work on the US models. You would need to punch through the plastic and add the button, but that is an easy fix.
