Question Upside down center caps - Rust!

Anyone else have them too?

Just kidding

Anyone have this rust water issue? I noticed today that there's rusty water that's spraying/seeping out from behind the center cap and looks like sh!t. (seen on all four wheels)

Am I overreacting? Should I just expect a little rusty water after the rain we've had recently or do I need to throw a tantrum or something?

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

The lightweight alloy wheels can not rust as far as I now. Should be coming from somewhere else.

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

When I took my wheels off to do the splash guards there was a lot of rust behind the center caps. I wire brushed it and sprayed thewhole area in the middle down with WD40 before putting them back on. I was a bit surprised.

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

Get that looked at. We had similar problems right where the center cap went in with Magnum/Charger R/T wheels it ended up bubbling all around the cap and it was too late to have warranty work

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

Most probably brake dust from the pads, could be the rotors or calipers. But, I go for rotating the wheels more frequently, like every 7,500 miles as OE pads are very dirty.

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

Thanks for all the inputs and suggestions guys, always helpful! I'm gonna pull the wheel and investigate further and if after that I feel like it's an issue that I want the dealer to see than I'll take it to them to investigate.

Re: Upside down center caps - Rust!

The rust is simply from the centre cap spring retaining clip, which in my mind should be stainless steeel, not mild..

I little corrosion preventative such as WD40 sprayed on it should sort it. You need to remove the cap to get at the clip though.

Ummmm, LMFAO re "rusing" alloy wheel!
