I called NYC customs on Monday and they told me to come in the following morning at 9 am, said it would take 5 hours. Got up early, drove through traffic to Queens with a plan on taking an uber back to BK for work. When I got there they quoted me ($550) for handles, window trim, and trunk "step" surround in gloss black. Then, they tell me that they couldn't do it that day because "the rain". I was a little surprised by this. It's not like they work outdoors. Then they proceeded to go back to work on another vehicle getting a wrap job, despite the rain... I looked at my weather app and saw that Thursday was the next day without rain (still confused about rain being an issue in the first place). I told them that I would like to drop it as early as possible, so I can get back to work and pick it up at the end of the day. They then told me that 1pm was the earliest they could do. This is despite having a white board up on their wall with their schedule. It was completely clear for the morning... I don't doubt that they do great work, and the cars I've seen Instagram are great, and they seem like a good group of guys, but this experience was just very strange, and the quote seemed high.

Luckily, I ended up stopping in at a glass tinting place in BK on my way home. I got a much more reasonable quote of $350 from Adam, and he told me to bring it back the next morning (on a rainy day) and leave it for 4-5 hours. I asked Adam if he'd ever heard of not applying vinyl due to rain and he laughed. As long as you don't go through a car wash or apply pressure for about 48 hours, the vinyl will cure just fine. Came back the next day and they did a great job.

TLDR: Got a high price quote from NYC Customs ($550) and a strange handling of scheduling, resulting in a waste of sitting in traffic for about 2.5 hours. Got a second quote from Brooklyn Auto Sound & Glass for $350. Took it to them next day and they did a GREAT job. Brooklyn Auto Sound & Glass: 4th ave and 18th street - 718 369 3030 [ask for Adam].

To be clear, I'm not bashing NY Custom, just laying out the facts. If I ever want some more extensive modification done, they will be the shop I'll go to first. They do some great work, just based on their instagram account.

Wow that's terrible. By NYC Customs do you mean The Custom Shop? If you do, thanks for the update as I won't recommend them again.

Whoops. Yep, I did mean the Custom Shop (edited to fix). I still appreciate the suggestion. I would say even if we set aside the weird scheduling/rain thing, the price quote was just too high.

Yeah that sucks. I'm really sorry and definitely won't recommend them again. Did you try to get a quote over the phone ahead of time?

Yep, He gave me a pretty wide range of about $400-$800 and said he could give me the actual quote when I came in.
