Vinyl Wrap Durability

Can anyone provide their experience with vinyl wrapping the chrome window trim? That's the last piece of chrome left on my 2014 Limited, and I'm considering getting it wrapped professionally. My main concern is how well the wrap will hold up on chrome. Also, living in the Chicago area, where the streets are salted in the winter, I make frequent trips to the automatic car wash. Will I have to forego the automatic and switch to hand washing? Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Vinyl Wrap Durability

i had mine done by a local shop about 8 months ago. So far it's held up to the TX heat perfectly fine - no fading, peeling, scratches. I can't speak for the drive through car washes - I hand wash mine. However, I always let up a bit on the water pressure over the Viynl wrap just out of caution.

I also have some over the chrome trim on the bumper step (have a 15 Limited) and that has held up excellent as well. The step pad takes more of a beating with putting stuff in/out of the trunk - or even if i step up on the bumper to wash to roof. A few very light scratches but no full rips or tears. I'm actually quite impressed so far with its durability - First time user here also.

Had the window chrome trim professionally vinyl wrap spring of 2015. Went through the Michigan summer and complete winter. Looks great still.

Re: Vinyl Wrap Durability

I've wrapped my chrome trims since 2004 on my BMW E46. To the day I sold it on 2011, the vinyl looked just like new, which is a testament to its durability. However, I only ran it through an automatic wash during the last 2 years. I've done my 14 WK2, and it still looks like new. It also depends on the quality of the vinyl you choose. I've used either Avery or 3M.

Re: Vinyl Wrap Durability

I will also be getting my window trim wrapped. I was recommended a place in Lombard called x-tremewraps.com by a forum member. I called and they have very reasonable prices as well.

Re: Vinyl Wrap Durability

I had a vinyl bed band on a 2002 Dakota for 8 years. Never split, cracked, or faded. I think waxing the vinyl helps keep it looking good.

Re: Vinyl Wrap Durability

I wrapped the chrome trim myself back in August and did a pretty good job...or so I thought because it's starting to rip off in a couple of places. Most likely due to the car wash. I'll probably remove it all and have it redone professionally.
