IT LOOKED LIKE CRAP.
So a week ago I inquired with a place about having my door handles, mirrors, and roof rack rails wrapped in gloss black...they said they'd be able to do it, but to do it the 'right way' they'd have to pull the handles. I expressed concern with pulling the panels because the Jeep only has 1200 miles on it and I didn't want any rattles or vibrations as a result of pulling the panels. The manager of the shop reassured me that he's pulled panels on thousands of cars and has only had a couple come back, but in the end they were taken care.
I brought the Jeep in this morning...I had to call them an hour before they were scheduled to close to see if they were done (because it takes me about an hour to make it to the shop in traffic)...They said it was done and to come pick it up.
When I got there, the guy who wrapped my car (not the manager whom I initially spoke with) walks up to me...and we walk up to the car...where I am instantly disappointed. The guy tells me 'it was extremely difficult to wrap my handles without taking them off the door'. I asked him why he didn't pull them because I had discussed it with the manager earlier. He said 'oh well you mentioned you were worried about rattles'...Anyway long story short, they didn't pull the door handles off, so it looks like garbage.
1. Essentially around every edge of all four door handles where the vinyl needed to be cut, there was chrome exposed. The edge of the handle which touches the car looked like a 5 year old took a dull razor to the vinyl.
2. The vinyl on the door handles had various creases and air bubbles.
3. The edges of the mirrors where the vinyl was cut, same deal...chrome exposed and rough cuts.
4. The lower edge of the mirror had large creases to the point that if you rubbed your finger over them it was far from smooth.
5. Even the rack rails look like crap...rough cuts on the edges and a bunch of chrome exposed.
I'll work this out with the owner / manager of the shop, but just wanted to vent my frustration as it seems like some of you all have had much better luck with vinyl wrapping, or you're just not as OCD as I am. For the time being I took pictures of all the flaws, emailed the owner and am awaiting a response...
