What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

Are the rear frog lights on the wk2 (that are the addon accessory that you can buy online) bright
Like German vehicles like an audi q7? Or are they in line with brake lights and are dim at night and come on with your brake light? Or are they bright and stay on full time like a an audi's?

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

From what I have read they can't be brighter than the brake lights.

It is recommended in the US that they come on when the front fog lights are turned on.

Many imported cars have them because of some U.N. standard.

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

US WK2 do not have rear fog light from factory. There is a mopar accessory to it that will turn on when the front fogs are turned on. It is a lengthy install process from what I have read.

The German cars have an extra bulb that is used as rear fog light (only on the driver side inside the tail lamp assembly) and is not linked to the front fog light switch. What I mean is it won't turn on the rear fog light when the front fog light is turned on.

On both our Porsches, you can activate just the front fog light or front and rear fog lights together. You cannot have just the rear on (at least on the Porsches). My wife's mini cooper had a separate switch to turn on just the rear fog light and it was a "clear" bulb and in the center of the rear bumper. Folks behind me used to think I am reversing my car. LOL.

Some folks here have removed the reflectors on the rear bumper on the WK2 and extended the tail lamps to it which is not controlled by the fog light switch (taillampsolutions I think it is called). I wish the WK2 came with the fog light similar to the European cars, but again, if it were so, you would see it 'on' all the time since most of the drivers here have their front fog lights on all the time even when there is no fog.

Cheers,
-A

I bought mine with the Mopar kit already installed...didn't like them...so I went with these:

MOPAR Accessory Kit rear foglight:

They are bright compared to the rear tailights so yes they function like the Q7.

The kit is wired into the foglight trigger circuit for the front fog lights, If you don't want to mess with tapping the wire from the fuse box like the installation instruction suggest you could always find another source for the run/start signal and add a switch inside the cabin to trigger the rear foglights so they would be selectable. (This only uses a single filament bulb)

Taillight solutions RFUK (rear foglight upgrade kit)

This is a misnomer because they are really additional tail and brake lights. The foglight housings are used and the sockets are changed to a dual contact instead of single contact to allow them to mimic the Brake/taillight function.

I personally prefer the RFUK because they give added visibility to the rear of the vehicle in all conditons other than fog.

The RFUK could also be modified to give you a selectable "true rear foglight" function by adding a relay harness and some diodes so when you active the rear fog circuit it would override the brake/tail/turn fuction.

If fog conditions were good enough to drive in I would probably use my 4 way flashers when I was on a two lane back roads if I think other driver may still have trouble just seeing my taillights.

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

I dont think Jeep has FOG Lights!!. They are more of a Driving lights. If they were actual fog light the police will be on your case for having them on all the time.
But maybe I am wrong.

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

Please dont use four ways when you're moving...they are for a STOPPED vehicle and - especially in low visibility - four way flashers cause more problems than they solve.

If you're that nervous...pull off, get a coffee, and wait.

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

Maybe I'm dense, but I can't find the MOPAR part number for the rear fogs to fit the 2014 models. I'm thinking of tapping into the trailer wiring harness and using the lead for the running lights so they come on with the tail lights or maybe the battery charging line so they are on whenever the ignition or accessory is on.

Would they be too bright or are there 2 separate bulbs on each side so only one can be connected?

There is no MOPAR kit for 14+. The MOPAR kit is for earlier years. You can buy a kit (non MOPAR) from taillight solutions, or frankenstein something together.

Re: What are the Rear Fog Lights like on the Wk2?

Are the rear reflector lenses the same in 2011 and 2014? I can solder wires to the connectors if I need to.

I still have a light that mounts in the hitch receiver which connects to the running light lead on a 4-way trailer connector and may go back to that one for some added visibility -- especially in the snow.
