What are these wheel well fasteners?

New TH here. Two of the driver side rear wheel well fasteners look to have narrow threaded posts. None of the others are like this. Something that was meant to break off during assembly? Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

To me it looks like they were there to hold it in alignment while the other fasteners were installed, and then replaced. Just a wild guess.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

Thanks for the response. I'm stumped. They are actually pretty close to the tires in entry/exit mode. I don't think the suspension would allow contact, but disconcerting nonetheless. Suppose I could ask the dealer whats up. Thanks again.

I don't have a TH, but I did take a look at my Summit and see nothing like it.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

That should have been snipped off after the fastener was installed.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

Plastic rivets...you just snip the post office and drill or punch out the rest.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

I'll take a small hacksaw to 'em tomorrow. Thanks.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

All you need is a small pair of dikes to cut them flush. A hacksaw is a little over kill for plastic.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

As mentioned, they are the plastic rivets that hold the flare on and someone did a really crappy job installing them. Or they used the wrong length rivet.

Even a pair of wire cutters will trim them.

I have the same thing on one of them in the driver side rear wheel well on my 2017 Grand Cherokee. I was gonna leave it but maybe I will just take a pair of wire cutters to it.

Re: What are these wheel well fasteners?

They may be a new style of plastic rivet. Perhaps they were put into the hole but not locked by pushing the nail in:
