What shade of black to use on dark charcoal

Hey guys,

Just left the body shop to figure out what we're gonna do to my overland... It's dark charcoal.... I'm erasing all the chrome... He wants to paint the chrome moldings instead of using vinyl wrap...He also told me not to spend the money on the altitude grill... He wants to paint the grill instead... I'm having him paint the door handles, brow, and mirror caps my body color... Everything else will be painted black.... He told me that I should use flat black... But I thought a glossy black would look better....

What do you guys think? I'm having the stock rims powder coated... Not sure if ill do black chrome or another shade...

Any black suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Carlo

Gloss black. Are the Window moldings chrome? If they are I would have them painted the same color as your jeep? I've always wondered if that would look good.

Thanks Scott I agree. I'm gonna have to go gloss black... Not sure why this guy was so obsessed with flat black...

Geox19- they are chrome around the windows... I did think about matching with body color but I think I want that gloss black instead to show more detail... The brow and mirror caps and handles will be painted body color however.

Thanks guys

She's going to look great. I've been thinking about getting my mirrors painted but then I know I wouldn't be satisfied and I would have to do what your doing. This is my first Chrysler product so I've been trying to hold off on mod's until the warranty runs out and I'll just go buy another jeep in 3 years if this one treats me right. Only thing I'm disappointed in atm is the breaks on my overland so I think that will be my only mod on this one. Sucks waiting because I can't stand the chrome mirrors or the trim around the windows I should just go get a quote. The door handles erk me too so would have to get that done over the Window moldings if I had to choose.

Re: What shade of black to use on dark charcoal

I agree get gloss black painted window trim. Get the grille painted body color too. Here's pictures of someone's dark charcoal that even has the wheels painted dark charcoal.

Re: What shade of black to use on dark charcoal

Jeez the body shop just emailed me the estimate! $3,717! He said 7-10 days they'll have my jeep. That also includes the wheels being powder coated! No way I can swing this amount to de chrome and paint a couple small pieces! Do you guys agree with this? Ill summarize what needs to be done.

Paint grill
Paint brow
Paint door handles
Paint mirror caps
Paint all chrome moldings
Powder coat rims
Install altitude headlamps
Install tow hooks

$3717!!!

He wrote " you can take 10% off the total and that is your out of pocket cost"
What does that mean?

Looks like I'm keeping my jeep this way for awhile! I'm so depressed!

Re: What shade of black to use on dark charcoal

wow...what would they charge for a complete repaint? 20K?

Buy an extra brow(seen them for $25 on ebay), pull the grill shell and mirror caps and send them to site vendor UR50slo. Id say he'll charge you about $200-250 for all of that. Go to a vinyl shop or tint shop and let them do the chrome moldings...but buy the vinyl on ebay yourself.....$90 for vinyl and about $200 for install. next...find a powdercoater yourself or just have the wheels PAINTED! The painted wheels would hold up just as good as the powder...I know. Most shop charge $50 per wheel. Next...buy the hooks and altitude lamps yourself from justforjeeps and install them yourself.....itll just cost you the cost of the items. the door handles will be a little tougher.....LOL

Can the mirror caps be purchased pre-painted from somewhere?

nope...not that anyone has found unless an owner replaces their painted caps with chrome
