So here's an update...later than I wanted it to be but anyway...
As mentioned above, I bought the Xenon Depot headlights with the copper mesh. I installed one in the passenger side and drove around for a couple of nights. I saw no significant difference between the fan version I have been running and the
My gut wants to say that the Xenon Depot light is a touch brighter...it is certainly not dimmer.
One thing I did notice is that there is a slight "hotspot" with the XD bulb. I don't know if it is because the fan version had a chrome reflector or set in the headlight capsule deeper or shallower or what. However, as long as you are not 10 feet away from a wall, you really do not notice the ever so slight spot in the light pattern except for a slightly brighter crescent shape on the road surface with the foglights off. Not a huge deal, you don't really notice it, and IMO, not a deal breaker...especially considering the following...
So before I could even install the driver side, my fan version died. The fan still works, but the LED element simply doesn't ignite. I think they did very well over the past couple of years, including a very very brutal winter. But...dead is dead. It is is dead.
Perfect time for me to put the Xenon Depot bulb in the driver side, which I did. Then I drove up north Michigan for the 4th of July (side note...it was to take the first trail ride in my Suzuki Samurai project, see sig). The Xenon Depot bulbs performed perfectly, and honestly, I feel better knowing that there is no fan that will fail. The overall quality is obviously better and the copper mesh is a pretty cool design, literally. *Snicker-snort*
I have dealt with Xenon Depot with my JWSpeaker fog light bulbs and now with their headlight bulbs. Both times were excellent experiences. I like the quality of their headlight bulbs and I like their service. After all this trial and error, the Xenon Depot bulbs are the way to go.
