Re: What's the verdict on LED headlight bulbs vs. HID?

This is an old thread, so some thing changed right now, the thing I want to said is the led headlight would changed alot. I plans to swap my headlights at present, so I read many post about led headlights in other forums, too many people said led headlight a lot brighter than halogens.

That's a fair concern. I think that without the right equipment, it is really up to the individual to determine better or worse. Having said that, I am pretty darn confident the XenonDepot LED lights are definitely brighter than halogens and shine at least as far. I'd trust the folks at XD to take care of you and make sure you are happy. Pull the trigger!

If I ever decide to purchase these units I will go with a solid HID low beam

I'm not completely sold on LED low beams yet

But you'd have to get projectors and cut open the housings as well, no? HID's in non-HID housings (without projectors) is bad news, especially for other drives, right?

Supposedly the JGC housings do a good job of dispersing the light properly, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. Check out this thread...

If these are for your JGC, you'll need the H11 for your foglights. The specs are really good. 2500 lumens. I'm tempted to get these for my highbeams actually.

I really don't get the Philips LED bulbs though. $160 for only 700 lumens? wtf? Am I missing something here?

*edit*

Nm, notice yours is a 2013, not sure what kind of bulb your fogs are.

Yeah, Philips LED bulbs is good, but too expensive, there are so many replacement with 2 years warranty in the market, and you will save a lot if you do some search in the forum.

Stock headlight hids to led conversion??

I just picked up a pair of these for my 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude from XD along with the h11 xtreme HID for my low beams in 6500k. I will post pictures as soon as I get them installed. Currently I have Phillips diamond vision halogen bulbs and the xd led 30w Cree foglight bulbs. Here is a picture of my current setup.

I'm hoping these aren't difficult to install but Steve has been very responsive so far with all of my questions! Update to follow.

My gut wants to say that the Xenon Depot light is a touch brighter...it is certainly not dimmer.

One thing I did notice is that there is a slight "hotspot" with the XD bulb. I don't know if it is because the fan version had a chrome reflector or set in the headlight capsule deeper or shallower or what. However, as long as you are not 10 feet away from a wall, you really do not notice the ever so slight spot in the light pattern except for a slightly brighter crescent shape on the road surface with the foglights off. Not a huge deal, you don't really notice it, and IMO, not a deal breaker...especially considering the following...

So before I could even install the driver side, my fan version died. The fan still works, but the LED element simply doesn't ignite. I think they did very well over the past couple of years, including a very very brutal winter. But...dead is dead. It is is dead.

Perfect time for me to put the Xenon Depot bulb in the driver side, which I did. Then I drove up north Michigan for the 4th of July (side note...it was to take the first trail ride in my Suzuki Samurai project, see sig). The Xenon Depot bulbs performed perfectly, and honestly, I feel better knowing that there is no fan that will fail. The overall quality is obviously better and the copper mesh is a pretty cool design, literally. *Snicker-snort*

I have dealt with Xenon Depot with my JWSpeaker fog light bulbs and now with their headlight bulbs. Both times were excellent experiences. I like the quality of their headlight bulbs and I like their service. After all this trial and error, the Xenon Depot bulbs are the way to go.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I was debating between this new version they have and the new VLEDs offering and last week my halogen passenger side died so I have to get something soon.

I think I agree with your point about not worrying about the fan. I may decide just to have a shop install these since I'm not super mechanical or have much time to devote to this.... although your write up makes it seem pretty easy. I think I may get some VLED Tritons for the front amber turns and have the shop install in the process - just hoping they won't overcharge labor.

Did you have to purchase the $25 canbus adapters with the XenonDepot ones? I'm also thinking because we are all members of t his forum that we will get good service from XD if any issues down the road.

Re: What's the verdict on LED headlight bulbs vs. HID?

I am in a similar conundrum. In November of 2015 I purchased the new OPT-7 LEDs at the time. By December 2015 I was filing the first warranty claim - for one of the wires. Then in May 2016 one of the LEDs started flickering. I diagnosed it to be the result of massive rust in every single connector and harness, which led to the demise of one of the flux capacitors. Unfortunately, I had the most unhelpful customer service rep. and I got my replacements at the beginning of July.

Yesterday, one of the LEDs dimmed out and is as good as dead. I filed for a refund. I cannot keep swapping out bulbs or components after just 3 months. I am ready to go back to HIDs for the fog lights. Does anyone recommend a specific kit (I also reached out to Xenon Depot here on the forum but no response yet).

Thanks

FYI, my XD bulbs are still doing perfect.

I see they have a newer version out now...
