You can't just fill them with screws they stand off the roof.
That is the same reason why FCA uses the low profile black mouldings to cover the studs when they don't install roof rails onto certain trim levels.
Sorry for the blurry photo and terrible zoom but I snapped pic of my truck the other day when I took the rails off to paint the trim Mineral Grey.
There are six post but I accidentally cut one off when I was cropping the photo. The first and last post dont hold any screws they only lock the trim down. The four posts in the middle are the anchor points.
Another fun fact the metal rails are the same from left to right what is different is the plastic trim the go around them.
