What's Under the Roof Rails

Good Morning.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer this. I would like to remove these completely, but would like to know if anyone who has experience in this area, whether removal or swap, what I am gonna be dealing with underneath.

Meaning, what type of hole is there, etc. If you also had a picture, I'd appreciate it. If not, I can take a mental note. I plan on filling whatever is there. Just kinda curious if I am opening a can of worms or not.

Thank You,

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

Like Jeep Addicted said there are rivnuts up there and you will see them. Best thing to do if you want to lose the rails is just buy the "low profile" SRT/High Altitude/Altitude ones which are more or less a roof rail delete options. They are fairly cheap as well and then you won't have the exposed holes and rivnuts up there. Go low pro

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

If you really want them totally gone and have the money a good body shop can plug weld the holes and paint the roof. I think there is a stopping point at the drip rails so they shouldn't have to carry the clear coat over onto the quarters. It will require dropping the headliner.

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

Dang!

So it's not just a pull and fill (easily) situation. Guess I will have to consider the lower profile rails.

If someone has a link to a site or someone has them FS, lemme know!

Thanks Again!

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

I never used the roof rack on my old suv and it was a drag (pun intended).

For my HA the low profile strip is perfect. It gives the JGC a sporty look and probably doesn't create wind resistance while still protecting the actual roof from being scraped. These days there are so many low parking structures and height limitations I wouldn't want their bars to brush against the actual roof to test if I fit.

Plus for future use one day and for resale, it would make sense to just keep the holes in there.

So my vote is to just covert to the STT/HA ones as mentioned above.

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

Mook you are going to run into a small issue with installing the molding delete strips.

Others have come across it before. On the trucks that come from factory with the strips they are missing one of the 6 rivnuts so most likely you'll have to make a clearance hole so you can install them.

Re: What's Under the Roof Rails

That or just use some screws with a rubber washer to cap the nuts. You wouldn't see them unless looking at the roof.
