Unhappy Wheel Well Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

Saw a couple of posts a few years back about front wheel well color matched plastic moldings coming loose on Summits. Didn't see the outcome anywhere.

Both left and right sides are lifting from the front upper corners on my 3 month old 2015 Summit.

The service manager from the dealership told me to bring it in and the Body Shop would "re-glue" them back into place. Said it would be a hassle to order new moldings and get the paint to match.

When my wife brought it in, a different service adviser said "oh no they must be replaced and repainted??

I guess that would be better because the right side does not line up with the front bumper. But not to keen on replacing and repainting...

Anyone had this problem? How was it resolved and were you happy?

I wouldnt be happy about a repaint on a new car like that. Mine were lifting and i wasnt about to let them make a mess of it on my 2014, i used a small syringe to precision inject some 3m emblem adhehesive at the points it was lifting. Not ideal but its better than repaint or trusting the dealer

This did the fix for mine, much better than turning it over to a dealer wanting to paint it, id never let them do that.

Re: Wheel Wekk Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

Check out the SRT forums for this issue. They've had those flares since 2012 and I think it's always been a problem. A couple corners on my summit stick out a tad too.

I think their suggestion was to hit the panel with a heat gun for a bit to kinda melt the adhesive a tad, then push the trim down hard and hold it there until it cools some.

Re: Wheel Well Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

I recently noticed on my 2015 grand Cherokee summit the right front and left wheel well molding where sticking out on the front of the molding. I called my dealer and brought the Jeep in so it could be looked at, I brought it in the next day for the repair I was told it would take a couple of hours so I waited and all is fine.

Re: Wheel Well Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

Super common issue that will effect ALL SRT, Summit, and High Altitude models at some point or another. Its pretty much just a poor design. The flare is held on closest to the tire with clips, then the outer portions are attached using double sided tape. They are also in an area where water has no problem getting to so over time they will eventually give. Usually starts at the exact place you are talking about. Front top corners. I personally wouldn't take mine to a dealer to fix this as more often than not you'll get it back in worse shape than when you brought it in. Its just a matter of sticking back in position. When I had my 2014 Summit I used hot glue gun to re-attach and it seemed to work good. So far my 2015 High Altitude flares are still good.

Re: Wheel Well Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

I understand how having repairs made by the dealer can be a difficult decision, I am always uncomfortable doing that. But on the hand my summit is the second vehicle from the same dealer, my 2006 300c was the first. The reason I bought from this dealer is not only for the buying experience but also the service department. I had the 300c for nine years and had it serviced there for the first four years with no issues. I feel they have a number of well trained highly skilled technicians, some have been there twenty to over thirty years. My jeep dealer is twelve miles from my home, I have bought vehicles and had them serviced from a dealer three miles from home. Right now I will drive the extra mile, my feeling is if they fix it, they own the repair.

I totally agree with you concerning taking my Jeep to the dealer for repairs and service. I have four vehicles; a Jeep, an Acura, a Toyota and a Ford product, so I am in a good position to assess dealer repairs and services for comparison. Of my four vehicles, I trust the Jeep dealer the most for both service and repairs. We have owned four Jeeps and I have been dealing with the same service advisor for over 12 years. I know the shop supervisor personally and this dealer has stepped up on more than one occasion when I had issues with our previous Grand Cherokee. When the fender flair issue developed on our 2015 Summit, I took the vehicle to my Jeep dealer. The result was high quality work with perfect paint match. There service department has highly trained and dedicated individuals in there service department. I am sure that my Summit is not the only time that they have seen this issue.

Re: Wheel Well Molding coming loose 2015 Summit

Does anyone know why some moldings need to be replaced and painted and some are removed and reinstalled?

Because some dealers are idiots and gouging the bill as much as they can with all the painting and prep and some dealers have a little more sense and ethics. I would be livid if a dealer destroyed my factory paint over these lifting flares instead of re attaching the existing. if they are damaged necessitating new flares that's one thing but that's not likely the case. if they are just lifting a little in a few spots then precision injecting a little emblem adhesive can save you a lot of hassle. as some have stated above and in the numerous other threads on this subject many people get back a bigger mess than they brought into the dealer over these flares.
