Re: Where do you put your phone?

Mine's in my pocket, where it should be!

Nav and communications are where they should be, on the 8.4 UConnect screen, using voice.

Nothing is more important than DRIVING my JGC

Re: Where do you put your phone?

I use a stubbie holder (coozie?) in the front door pocket if I've had my phone on me... but I try to leave it in my man-bag as I'm sure that having it in your pocket isn't beneficial for one's health.

When on holidays and need off-road mapping I use this:

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Where do you put your phone?

I don't always charge my iPhone 6+ all night but when I do, I charge it in the shitter wall plug. I don't always use the usb to charge my phone but it's there when ready since I have my push2tv and hdmi cable.

I'm planning on getting a holder for the vents. I don't like looking down at my phone while driving. Hate people who txt n drive.

To each their own if they like looking down even for NAV.

I'm pretty sure it makes no difference.

Think about it: that radio signal has to be able to potentially travel several miles, sometimes though walls, to get to the nearest tower. The difference between being in a bag next to you or in your pocket won't make a difference in the exposure.

It's like the difference between standing a foot away from a jet engine and 10 feet from it. Without something to block it, the effect is the same.

Don't forget, cell phones use frequencies in the UHF band, which means you're getting hit by the very same spectrum has TV stations use to broadcast. Further, those cell towers are sending out RF and bombarding you even if your phone is off (and even if you don't have a cell phone). Those cellular and TV towers use thousands of watts to broadcast.

Your cell phone is normally only using about a 1/2 a watt to transmit, with a peak usage of no more than 1 watt. Compare that to older bag phones and installed car phones that used as much as 3 watts.

The fact is, just being out in the sun is far more dangerous than carrying your cell phone in your pocket.

I agree with the logic, but it still does not prevent me from putting the phone in my cupholder while driving. My dad made an issue of me always having my phone in my pocket and I guess it stuck with me.

I am surprised by the number of different mounts people use. I always just choose a cupholder or some other cubby to set the phone.

Re: Where do you put your phone?

The issue with a phone in the pocket is more about it getting broken when you walk into something... While is why I use a belt-holster and have the smartphone screen toward my body.

That said, having the phone viewable while in the vehicle is pretty much a personal preference thing. I prefer to see it; others don't feel the need. Either way works.

Re: Where do you put your phone?

I have a Proclip vent mount for my S6. I love the position of the phone, but on super cold or hot days, I hate that it blocks my main face vent.

Re: Where do you put your phone?

A big issue I have is that the stock nav does not provide the fastest real time route. Driving to and from Chicago on a regular basis in rush hour means I need something that is going to tell me the fastest way to get there right now. For that I use Google Maps. Sometimes it is almost a half an hour faster than my stock Nav. I think I am going to try out that Kenu vent clip.

Re: Where do you put your phone?

The Kenu vent mount works great on the JGC. Super easy to insert/remove phone one-handed.

I use the mobile app Waze everyday to avoid heavy traffic, construction, accidents, red light cameras and police. It's very helpful.
