A friend of mine is selling his Thule rack set and I was debating picking it up. He has a 44 in fairing and I believe it should work on the WK2 I just wanted to see if anyone is using a smaller one than what Thule suggests (52 in I think). Also, if anyone has the regular square bars and wouldn't mind chiming in if they are noisy or not I'd appreciate it.
I installed a Rocky Roads roof rack with crossbars and am making my own fairing from a piece of 8"X44" 1/8" aluminum. Apples and oranges here, perhaps, but I would say that 44" should be just right for the fairing width on the WK2.
I have Thule's square bars and the 44" fairing. The fairing is the right size and fits nicely. There is noticable wind noise with the square bars and fairing especially above 50 mph. Without the fairing, it is very noticable. Personally I wish I had the Aero bars, but I wanted the square bars for the kayak load assist that goes with the square bars only. To be fair, the wind noise is not bad enough that you cannot comfortably carry on a phone coversation while using the hands free feature. I have not had anyone on the other end complain.
