I have been working with Rocky Road performance on the possibility of mounting a winch on my WK2. They have had my car for a few days, and are designing some options that they are looking for my (and your!!) opinions on.
Originally I was thinking something real basic (just the fairlead sticking through the bumper), but after chatting with them, they want to build something more along the lines of this:
They have designed a mount, and are ready to build a prototype, but have some questions before they go all in. The thought is that they can do either type – just the winch mount, or the winch mount with the front cover (pushbar, d-rings, etc). The design would be relatively “advanced” to install – take the bumper off, cut the bumper, cut the frame cross-member, drill some holes, bolt the winch mount to the frame, etc….. The winch mount would replace the cross member (and likely be stronger than the factory one).
So – I told them I would gather some info on the interest in doing this.
1. Are you looking for a winch mount for your WK2?
2. Are you willing to cut your front bumper to install behind it?
3. Are you willing to cut the frame cross-member?
4. Do you want the winch mount on it’s own? Or with the bumper?
So – all in all lots of questions – the more info and the more discussion the better for them to decide if they want to produce and bring this to market!
From the looks of counting the grill slots, I'm sure I could fit a 10" E series White (spot/flood combo) inside and maybe a 6" SR Amber (driving) series on top.
Great Job!!,Could you tell us how you wired the winch,,,,Any relay with a master switch or direct to the battery ??,,Did you upgrade the battery and sorry if I missed it but what winch did you go with again??
Even still... It looks great. Thanks for posting the pics! I have been anxiously awaiting pics of the RI light bars mounted on the front of the WK2 for a while now.
I wish they would just play around and offer "CUSTOM" Light Tabs as an option.
im waiting for a nice day to install my lights (ipf868) and the factor55 hook but this is what the winch mount looks like on my truck! i love it and a breeze to install.
more pics once the lights go on!!
May be someone can post a LINK of were someone posted how to install / tips / tricks I did do a search with no luck thanks. I am going to pull the trigger and order the winch mount, Combo bumper and the Pre-runner skid tomorrow
I have just 1 issue with the skid, IMO it kinda looks unfinished but when i get it all together I am going to take a good look and see if there is a way to remount the 2 side black abs covers back on... that will give it a clean look when i am on the road witch is 98% of the time here is a pic of the 2 sides that i am typing about (if anyone is good at photo-shop i would like to see the skid on )
Not sure if those can be separated - it is one piece that comes off. I personally am just running the prerunner when I know I am going offroad. It took about 10 minutes to take it off, put it on....

I don't have a winch installed at the moment so I don't have a fairlead sticking out. I just used 3M double sided tape to attach the license plate to the bumper and cover the fairlead hole. Sorry, not the solution you were looking for
I ordered and received a Rugged Ridge Hawse Fairlead License Plate Holder for the front license plate and wouldn't you know its doesn't work!!! ,,, then i learn to find out its ony ment to fit a Hawse fairlead 1/2" thick max! and the one that comes with the Warn VR10000s is much thicker and as most other common winch Hawse Fairlead so now its back to trying to fabricating something that will work :slapfight:,,, but not before I call Rugged Ridge tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind! Im hoping that they have a different mounting system for the Warn Hawse Fairlead ! I'll keep you guys posted!
Well I finally got mt 1 3/4 " RRO leveling kit installed and my warn VR10000S winch with the RRO bumper mount ,,, very happy with the whole project , well worth the time and money:thumbsup: next will be some lighting and maybe some undercarriage protection ,, but here are some pictures , I hope you guys enjoy them!!
They are still waiting for someone to bring one in to test fit/modify. I'd only he would release (or not) the trailhawk 2, I would know what I was buying....
Looking to get some fog / driving lights put on my RRO set up, I have not seen to many lighting ideas I am kinda liking the WARN W350F 3-1/2" 55W Fog lights. LEDs would be nice but for a Quality Pair $$$
anyone have a few pics to share or if you know a thread that covers this that would be great

I just ordered the winch mount for my 2015 and they confirmed it fits.
Took old winch (used once) from 2012 and will install as soon as I get the mount......
That ARB bumper looks horrible. Who needs that for a WK2? It makes it look a tank. If you need a bumper with that much protection, you probably shouldn't be driving a WK2.
Just my opinion, but I think RRO is much more in tough with the GC customer. Most are doing relatively light to moderate wheeling and want/need a winch setup for the occasional tug from getting stuck in mud/snow when no one else is around.
I’m about to tackle the install of the rocky road Winch Bumper. Any advice? Did yours come with all the needed hardware? I feel like after reading the directions I’m missing some.
