Windesa/Sonniboy interior sun shades

Hey all - I'm new to this site. Picked up a '15 High Altitude a couple days ago, and previously owned a '12 GC Laredo X.

In my previous cars, I had custom-fit sunshades from VanStyle, similar to this:

I like those because they are designed to fit specific cars, and cover the whole window, plus the rear side windows and the hatch window as well. I hate the roll-up or suction-cup sunshades, because they don't cover the whole window, and generally look like crap.

The main brands are Sonniboy (commonly sold by Windesa), and VanStyle. VanStyle doesn't make shades for the WK2, but it looks like Sonniboy might. On the Windesa site, they show compatibility for "Jeep Grand Cherokee 2010-2013," but in an email, a representative of the company says that they don't make a shade kit for the 2015. Now, here I'm making an assumption that even though the 2014 WK2 got a styling refresh, the window size & shape hasn't changed, so the kit marketed for 2010-2013 should work, right?

On Windesa's site and their eBay listings, they show a WK2 GC, and the compatible vehicles list shows "Laredo E, Laredo X" models. Those are WK2-only models, right?

My only hesitation is the mention of the 2010-2013 model years. Did Europe get the WK2 in 2010-2013, or was it still the WK? Here's another eBay listing that shows "Grand Cherokee IV" as a WK, though they don't have a photo of any JGC.

Long story short, the Windesa part number is son-01-78290, and I'm just trying to get confirmation if these will fit a WK2 Jeep, or if I'm just out of luck. I searched the forum before I posted this question, but didn't see any mention. I am a Jeep newbie, but I'm not new to modding cars or forums or the internet.

Re: Windesa/Sonniboy interior sun shades

Those are nice looking! Fortunately my wife's vehicle that we use to transport the little ones has those built in and are retractable. Would be nice if they could add those from the factory on future Grand Cherokee similar to other newer SUVs have now.

If I eventually put a car seat in my car I would for sure look into purchasing those. Thanks

Oh and just an FYI the latest generation Grand Cherokee (aka WK2) started in 2011, not 2010. The older WK was 2005-2010.

Right, and that's why I haven't purchased these yet. Since they mentioned 2010, it made me wonder if the 2010-2013 Grand Cherokee was still a WK in Europe. I know they have the WK2 now.

Oh ok I see what you're saying. Well I cant imagine the body styles being different between the years so thats gotta be a typo on their part. regardless of what country the vehicle original went to the 2010 is still the older body style and 2011 is start of the new "WK2".

Now another thing I want to mention is I think WK2 is more of a nickname people online gave the newer 2011+ models. I believe as far as the manufacturer is concerned even the 2011-2016 are still considered WK and not WK2. I could be wrong, but I bet the company just put the wrong year thinking 2010 was the first year of the new body style, and as far as WK goes, thats technically what the 2011+ is as well. I think if you order them you should get the correct shades for a 2011+ Grand Cherokee.

Re: Windesa/Sonniboy interior sun shades

After a couple more emails back and forth with the company, I got this response:

Quote:
The Sonniboy 78290 is only fitting for the model 2010 – 2013. The rear window is different from the new model.
In my mind, because of the translation, they're saying one of the below:

1. The 2010-2013 Grand Cherokee in Europe is a WK, not a WK2, so the shade kit won't fit a WK2 at all.

2. "Rear window" could mean either the rear hatch window, or rear passenger windows. I'm thinking this was lost in translation.

3. Both are WK2 models, but Jeep made a minor design change between 2010-2013 models and 2014+ models that means the shade kit doesn't fit anymore. Anyone know if this is true? I'm positive that the windows themselves didn't change, but maybe the interior trim pieces did. Can anyone confirm/deny?

I still might order a set of these to see if they are actually for a WK2, and the person I'm emailing on their end doesn't know what they're talking about.

Re: Windesa/Sonniboy interior sun shades

Based on this 2011 article from Chrysler, the "2010-2013" Euro model is clearly a WK2:
New Jeep® Grand Cherokee Now Powered by New 3.0-liter Turbo Diesel Engine - Press Releases - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles EMEA Press

I'm going to do a bit more research, but I'd bet that these shades fit the 2014+ models just fine.

Re: Windesa/Sonniboy interior sun shades

Revisiting my own thread. I think I may have figured this out. When I got this reply from the company:

Quote:

... I wasn't taking into account that the flipper glass from the 2011-2013 GC had been removed from the 2014+ GC. So perhaps some interior dimensions changed slightly, like revised window trim on the hatch, since the latch for the window was removed. I seem to remember there being something there from my 2012, can someone with a '11-13 GC post a pic of the inside of their hatch glass?

If that's the only difference, then I might still go ahead and order these shades. I really only want the side shades anyway.

I want these... hopefully someone will take the leap of faith. I will be taking the leap shortly myself, hoping that this will fit just fine!

Can you elaborate what about them didn't fit? I was literally just about to order a set.

Well, shit. You saved me $280, but I'd rather have a set of shades. Thanks for the definitive info.
