Re: Window Tint

This is what 35% tint looks like on the front door windows of my old 2014 Limited. I plan on doing the same on my 2014 Granite Overland once the weather gets warmer.

Re: Window Tint

Thanks for the pics, GC Limited.

I think mines are darker than that, so i probably did get 20% or so. I just told the tint shop to match the back since the dealer told me that windows were factory tinted to 35% to comply with North Carolina law. I'll drive it around like this for now and if i get bothered by the cops, ill have it re-done to 35 or 40%.

They did a great job on your windshield strip. I can't find a shop around here that can do one without bubbles on the dot matrix around the mirror section.

Re: Window Tint

I did. Huper Optik 20% worked. Last time I had 35% and nothing but oem on the windshield. In the sun, the front and back looked very different.

Re: Window Tint

Will tinting the panoramic roof glass cause any problems because of attracting heat and potentially cracking the glass? My tint guy thought it could be a problem. Mg guy highly recommends doing the windshield with a light tint. He said heat reduction and road glare is huge with just a little tint.

Re: Window Tint

Just for the record the tint I've used on my last 6 Grands is 50-75% on the entire front windscreen, its florida. 20% on the front doors to match the OE, legal here, and it has always been perfect. The windshield just cuts the glare, and darkens the whole package a tiny bit.. Never had a problem, no inspections down here, and been pulled over plenty. On my other cars I've done 35% all around on a 50% windscreen and it looks gorgeous. I like GC limited's jeep, perfect color, wish there was an option for clear glass as I could do that color all around. With a quality tint it's all you need to cut light.
I like Lumar films.. Only used ceramic once, it was nice but I liked the color of the non. I've tinted around 20 cars now and I learned early not to go too dark... Until I listened to someone else..

It's in the shade but it doesn't matter.. This is what not to do. At night im not happy. Don't listen to the excited dealer when he says he'll take care of it..
3M very nice clarity but just stupid
75% windshield 5% on the front doors 20% over the rears
I decided to live with it as I love looking at it, from the outside.. I'll be doing it over soon since I scratched a rear window.

For comparison

Re: Window Tint

Like many have said, the shop I used said that the rear is 20%.

Windshield Llumar Airblue80
Front windows Llumar CTX (Ceramic) 30%
Sunroof Wincos 20%
Rear - Stock Privacy Glass

There is a shop in Costa Mesa, CA that is amazing at their work and they leave no bubbles behind even on the dot matrix area surrounding the windshield. I think I'm not allowed to mention shops, but PM me if you're in SoCal and I can let you know who they are. Upon posting a request on facebook for recommendations, 4 friends messaged me with the same shop. Best part is the ticket insurance they offer - regardless of how many tint tickets you receive, they will remove and replace your film for the lifetime of the vehicle.

I know the rears are 20%, however I felt that 20% up front would be uncomfortable at night. 30% at night is great. My main reason for tint is heat rejection anyways which is why I went with ceramic.

Airblue80 on the windshield is amazing! the heat rejection is great and from the outside it's barely noticeable, just a slight blue hue. Something I forgot to take into account is if you wear polarized sunglasses. There is slight cross polarization happening because you're looking through a plastic film. Nothing detrimental, just some reflections look rainbowy.

Wincos Sunroof - my installer recommends wincos because they are a true nanoceramic and the heat rejection is superior to that of Llumar or F1. There is a slight blue tint to the Wincos film which is why she did not recommend it for the front two windows if I cared about color matching. Llumar is more charcoal.

All in all I'm extremely happy with the tint job and the car is noticeably cooler. It's been in the 90s here recently and it doesn't feel like an oven every time I jump into my car during the day.

My windshield and pano-roof on my WK2 are both done at 50%. Never had a problem doing the sunroofs and my tint guy does them all the time and has never had a problem. The entire rest of the Jeep is done at 5% and it is dark!

Re: Window Tint

I have 20% on my roof and it's great. The film reflects and rejects heat, not absorbs it. Doing the windshield and roof are important for heat rejection since those are huge pieces of glass and directly facing the sun during the critical hours.
