If you have tinted you 2011 JGC windows, what % did you go with and how does it match the rear windows? Also has anybody put an eyebrow on and did it effect the auto high/low beams?

In addition to the front drivers and passengers windows I'll also have the pano roof done as well. I've alway had a light tint put on my moonroofs, and DOES cut down on the heat load along with 98-99% UV reduction.

Has anyone tried 35% to match the front? I had 20% on my '00 and seems darker than what is stock rear on the '11. I had 35% on an older car that I felt was sort of light, my biggest concern is to match the rears. I know many of you say that 20 is the best match but has anyone used 35% and can provide a pic? Thanks.

I live in Virginia and they are pretty strict on tint laws. Requires 50% front sides and 35% rear! Previously, I lived in Florida (much more forgiving). Would a cop REALLY fine me for the rear windows being too dark from the factory?!? I want to chance it and get the front sides tinted 20% anyway, but I am curious if anyone has ever been fined for stock rear window tint.

Live in Cali, rules are strict here so I decided to play it safe with my tint. Went with 55% Suntech tint even though matching it looks great. Talked to the tint guy, he said if I want to risk it I can try 45% but will probably be pulled over within a year.

Anyway thought I would forward picks for anyone that might just want a little tint.

From the front looking back it looks great, but from the side or the back it is nowhere near as cool as 20% :) Paid $85

I always thought tint % laws only applied to side windows and windshields (typically no tint allowed for windshields... in CA). and not for rear windows.

Anyway... I believe legal tint in CA is any tint allowed for rear windows. No tint allowed for windshield. and must have above 70% light transmission for front windows.
70% light transmission is basically super super light tint. So basically if you want to tint your front windows in CA it's going to be "illegal." Will you get caught? Depends how you drive and how the officers are feeling that day.

IMO, 35% would be the lightest I would go on the front. Most likely I will go with 20% to match the rear.

I had 15% all around on my black A4. Looked sweet. Got 2 tint tickets in 3 years.

PS, Headshock:
Was it tough to put that Thule fairing on? I basically have the same rack setup as you, minus the fairing. Do you see a big difference in wind noise?

Ya, I figured i'd go light vs not at all. Don't want a ticket. While the tint I have may get me a ticket, the chances are lower than if I went down to to %35 or %20.

I made my own hardware to install the fairing. Wasn't to bad but was a some work. I had a mass whistle with the snowboard rack that went awaywhen I installed the fairing. There is still some noise but its not as bad. When you open the sunroof it gets noisy still but Im not sure what it was like the before the fairing.

I have a post out there sthat shows how I made the metal brackets from Home Depot scrap metal.

HEADSHOCK: Thanks for the pics. Although I like the look of the matching front back 20% tint I've been thinking of also going with the legal tint for the fronts. It's enough to give a better than stock look w/o the hassles of getting pulled over, stripping the tint for inspection, etc. Your pics gave me a good perspective.

Just had my 2011 Laredo front windows tinted with LLumar tinting at 20%, looks perfect. Pluse LLumar has a lifetime guarantee for the tinting. Not sure where your at but most places use LLumar or 3M tinting both with the same warranty, but with 3M it is more of a bluish tint.

I got 35% on the driver and front passenger windows. Lighter than the rear but still a good look. I california and it basically illegal but I haven't had a problem with the light tint in the past. Got them done for $45 and the clear bra, light covers, etc for $225. I got lucky, a friend took care of it.

As summer is coming (not here is South East AZ today) and people start looking at tinting their WK2 I thought I would post a good link that provides good information about each of the states laws on window tint. I live in a small town and the police here just love to ticket people for excessive window tint.

If you travel widely out of state, you need to go with the worst-case situation. We found out about this the hard way in DC, when we stopped to read a map and got snared in a drug sting. The police couldn't find anything illegal about us, but pored over the window tinting in detail until they were satisfied it met legal standards. (And confiscated our radar detector!)
