The idea behind dimming / turning the DRL off when the turn signals are flashing is for your safety. Most of these idiotic LED DRLs are brighter than the dang turn signals. If they're physically in the same area then they drown out the turn signal lamps. So what do you care, you are thinking. Well ... when some idiot t-bones you 'cause he can't see your drowned out turn signals you (and your passenger) might have a concern then. I would not be surprised to see some Federal / State laws passed to require automatic dimming of DRLs. NY is already checking window tints on windows during the required vehicle inspection (starting Jan 1, 2017). Checking DRL dimming can't be far behind.
<rant>Frankly I think all these clear-lensed chrome-plated headlight / tail light fixtures should be banned. I cannot begin to count the number of times I've almost hit someone 'cause way down in a corner of their chromey little light fixture, with the sun beating on it, a tiny little light bulb is blinking ... only it's totally drowned out by DRL and sunlight. The same problem occurs with brake lights when the sun is behind you 'cause apparently there are no laws governing illuminated area thus the CAD kids have made lenses smaller than a g string popular.
