I'm not sure what you mean by oval pewter plate, can you post a pic?

Re: WK2 front license plate

Bumping this thread...my new plates arrived last night and I'm wondering if anyone has come up with any new ideas or products for attaching plates to the WK2's front bumper. Seems so primitive to just screw into the plastic!!

Are there any better fasteners or combinations of fasteners that anyone can recommend? Some ideas would be any type of threaded anchor with a backing to lock it in on the backside of the plastic, or locking washers, or anything that would give even a bit more of a finished look when the plate is removed. A couple of shanked-out screw holes just doesn't cut it for me!

I plan on using a plain black frame on the front and the back unless Mopar comes out with a custom bracket.

We do not have front plates in MI so do not have that problem....BUT has anyone tried compression tape like what holds on trim peaces? You can buy 3M double sided tape...just a thought.

Re: WK2 front license plate

If I were you I would just put the plate under the passenger side carpet. IMO the show and go retractable bracket wouldn't suit the WK2 well. That's just my opinion. Plus look at it this way, how many cops are going to hassle you over it?

No front plate FTW!

Not really a viable option unfortunately. Cops in my area seem to be looking for reasons to pull people over these days. I have nothing to gain by giving them a legitimate reason.

I'm taking it in on Friday for a replacement wheel (warranty, the original shipped with a blemish on the drivers side front wheel). I'll ask them about it then.

I am not sure if CO required a front plate or not, but the bracket was already screwed into the front plastic of the bumper when I picked her up. I guess I am stuck with it now.. no big deal

Weather tech makes a plate frame that i'm pretty sure completely surrounds your plate. I think you open it up and put the plate inside and then attatch it to the car. Not sure if I want to spend $30 on a plate frame, but I think this would be the most finished look for now since jeep does not make an actual bracket yet.

Not sure about the castanets though, it looks like you would still just have to screw into the bumper. But at least the plate would have a buffer between it and the bumper, instead of the metal plate sitting right against the bumper.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went with a cheapie plain metal frame for now but I think I'm going to hang onto the receipt and keep looking. I stopped into an Advanced Auto Parts store just now and they had some kits with assorted fastening gear including bushings to prevent rattles, but they all seemed to require access to the other side of the bumper.

Silly as it sounds, this is the first irritating thing I've encountered with the WK2.

Clearly, I have a very good life.

Re: WK2 front license plate

Here's a pic of the frame I'm using (sorry for the poor quality of the pic).

It's black plastic, very thin, a little bigger than the plate, with a border that surrounds the sharp edges of the plate, and three tabs (on the sides & bottom) to hold it in place. It almost sits flush with the bumper, & makes the plate rigid to prevent bending.

TY, John. I have one on the back now that is a rounded edge black metal frame that shows no tabs. I may just get one that matches that...or I may get a matching pair of these. Appreciate the suggestion.

Re: WK2 front license plate

Even though front license plates are required in California, the Jeep dealer did not mount the plate holder (thank you) because they realize new Grand Cherokee owners do not want to spoil the look of their vehicle with an ugly plate holder (or plate). The only people who seem to care that you don't have a front plate are at the car wash 'cause they have to walk to the rear to get your plate number!
