Re: WK2 Nudge Bar Project

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys - It's reassuring other owners share my frustration.

I looked at this one too - I just don't like the way it just kind of finishes at the bottom and just floats in space (this is my gripe with most nudge bars). The second horizontal piece, the rectangle profile, is a deal breaker for me too. Just so 'meh'.

I don't have park sensors (or speed sensor), I just want something that would actually hold up to being nudged. Most of the stuff I've seen is a thin 5mm steel plate going out to a similar bar... No way that would hold up to someone backing into it... It would just bend back into the bumper and cause more damage.
Mate, with the way the Aussie dollar is heading of late it may not necessarily be such a crazy idea—you get quite a lot of buying power converting from USD to AUD at the moment (right now you'd buy about $1.39 AUD). I'm going through the quoting process right now and making sure what I'm going to get is fabricated to the standard I want to see from it. I'd also have to investigate the difference between the Aus and US mounting points (given that the US tow hooks don't work here).

I'm making a few final tweaks to the design before I have it fabricated—I have an idea to add a bracket and quick release system for the front number plate. Not only would this address the very specific Australian Design Rules (ADRs) for number plate visibility, it would allow a hidden winch mount system to be installed in the front bar as well—something I have on my list of future mods.

Re: WK2 Nudge Bar Project

Matt_Chops, Great looking bar, having the Laredo parking sensors aren't an issue but a bar like yours would make me feel safer when parking-roulette time comes around:

Quote:
My self-imposed design and functionality requirements were as follows:
- The bar should protrude from the lower grille area to appear integrated in the design of the Jeep
- It should be compatible with a tow hook in each mounting assembly
- There should be no change to the approach angle while offroading
- I should be able to mount a combination of accessories on the bar with the ability for these to change (2 or 3 spotlights, or a light bar with room for an aerial on each side)
- Wiring for these accessories should be able to be run inside the bar for a completely flush and seamless appearance
- The top of the bar should be no higher than the lower edge of the grille rings to suit the existing lines of the Jeep
- No mounting hardware should be visible when the bar is fitted
Couldn't have put it better myself, on all accounts.

I could ad a signature like Snuke's
"I just want it for the nudge bar" If I had yours.

I'm real keen on this design, the best I've seen yet.

Matt, you might need to put these bad boys into production.

Here's your feedback: Please provide the total cost (product plus shipping) to Chicago, IL, USA. In other words looks exactly like what I would like - not too tall, not too protruding, seems not to interfere with the ACC radar eye or block the engine for cooling, mounts in the tow hook location and allows for re-using the bar for emergency towing of the Jeep while allowing the installation of accessories. So put it into production then start a group buy. Great job.
