Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Hi Guys,

FYI...the Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport Utility Bars (Part No: 82212072AC) are on eBay for $119... you can make an offer if you want. I did for $100 and it was good.

Black Roof Rack Kit Set Carrier Lock System Cross Bar for Grand Cherokee 2011 14 | eBay

Just have to figure out now which way is front as all the stickers came with it but are not attached.

That's a great price if they are legit OEM. I paid $250 at the dealer about 2 weeks ago.

That's a great find. How's the quality?

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

E7T, thanks for compiling this information. Are you still undecided or did you finally make a purchase? Here's where I'm at in the thought process, maybe someone can fill in the details:

1) I'd like flexibility of adding a roof top tent, and would like to haul a bit of weight up there. That lands me square at the GOBI, but we're talking $1500

2) Half the price and half the rack is Rocky Road adventure rack. Looks pretty solid. Looks like it would ride a bit higher than the stealth. Haven't heard to much about it. Could someone please provide a review? Weight capacity?

3) the Baja mule looks ok but needs bars which brings me to

4) just get bars. MOPAR and the rest pretty much come down to opinion unless someone could provide some static/dynamic load values. It seems like the websites don't go out of their way to provide that info. Could this support a tent?

Long story short I'm leaning RRO because it seems best of both worlds. Seems solid. Flexible bolting on anything. Under a grand (while being on top of a grand). Any more pics and info on them would be great! Also, please offer any other info/advice on the buying process; a lot of good has come of this thread.

Just purchased these for $100 as well. Based on what I've read on other threads, these are T-bar mounts and you can use the Thule accessories or anything else that is T compatible on them.

someone in another thread posted that they had purchased unbranded bike carriers for these and they were identical to the Thule (and likely came from the same factory).

I have the RRO rack. It is very sturdy but I don't know the actual max load. If you give them a call I am sure Jared could get that info. I have a 275/65R18 Goodyear Duratrac spare up there along with an ax, shovel, lightbar, hi-lift and two fully loaded jerry cans so I know it can handle that much weight and I have had someone stand on top of it when putting the spare tire up so thats another 175lbs. You can check out my build thread too if you would like to see more pics.

Still deciding. Not sure if I want an RTT or not.

I bought this one as well and installed it. No previous experience with roof racks but the bars installed fine. I think they are identical to the mopar rack though unless Thule makes an identical version as well. The reason I say this is because 1) they look like the mopar bars in the picture 2) mopar logo is printed on the instructions.

I didn't encounter any problems except for the key locks at the ends of the bars. I removed one end on the front bar and wasn't able to get they key to the lock position after installing the bar. It just wouldn't turn and the key lock assembly started pulling out. I put the key back in the neutral position and pushed the key lock assembly back in and moved on. I didn't touch the other 3 locks because of this as they don't need to be removed to install or use the crossbars. The instructions tell you to remove them but it is not necessary.

Face them like the profile of an airplane wing with the fatter side facing forward and you shouldn't get any wind noise.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Nice and clean there, Hutch801.

If anyone's rack is making noise at speed(s), remember you can fix it by adding a fairing and/or changing the spacing between the bars. It's physics, where the wind sets up a 'standing wave' and the 'wave nodes' are the bars. It's like plucking a guitar string or rubber band, except the wind is the guitar string. Even Whispbars can make noise at speed, given the right conditions. There's no guarantee, again it is physics.
