Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

I got my ebay bars installed. Took a ton of pics. This seems to be the defacto thread for bars, so I can post an unpacking/install guide if desired.

On the noise: Spacing the bars as far apart as possible makes the db increase minimal, but removing the rubber from the trays makes it much louder. Don't be an idiot like me and yank them out because they are a hassle to get back in.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Just bought a set of Thule Wingbars. Fit well. Don't leave them on full time, just when I need them. Am now sourcing the Thule Euroway G2 bike carrier. Also got a set of the Konig chains for the BFG AT's.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

We were at Fort Funston (just south of SF) last weekend, watching the hang gliders along the coast. Hang gliders have unique rack needs - much longer than most of us. There were some interesting racks in the parking lot. I didn't take pictures there but here are a few examples from the web. Searching images for roof rack hang glider will point you there.

That second picture shows a case, although it looks like a missile.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Does anyone has a source for some sort of cleat/eye that is compatible with the WK2 roof tracks?

Basically, something that just provides a tie-down point.

Thanks,

-john

It may not be exactly what you are looking for but take a look at Rocky Road Outfitters Roof Rails. They fit right inside the tracks that come on WK2's and they have 3 eyes where they attach to tracks.

What about Whisbar? It makes what is supposed to be the quietest cross bars.

Whispbar (maybe for 'whisper bar'?) used to be its own company but they were acquired by Yakima five years ago. Whispbar's history page mentions the 2010 acquisition: http://www.whispbar.com/about/

You can find Whispbar on Yakima's site: http://www.yakima.com/

One Yakima example: http://www.yakima.com/shop/baserack/flush-bar

I received my RRO side rails and adventure rack last week and installed it last night. I had a hard time finding pictures of this system from above the vehicle, so I took a couple to include here for anyone else who might be considering this roof rack. This thing is sturdy! There's no give to the rack whatsoever. Can't wait to put it to use.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

I bought the Whisbar from Yakima and I am very happy with it. It is very sturdy and quiet. I just returned from a kayaking trip to Northern Wisconsin, 5 hours each with 2 60 lb. kayaks on top. The bars were sturdy and rock solid doing 80 MPH most of the way.
When not carrying a load, there is no noise to speak of.
Great product.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Looking for some guidance on a happy problem. I just pulled the trigger on a '15 WK2 Limited with Offroad 2 package. I purchased the bright lines rack cross bars via Amazon to arrive at time I picked up my new Jeep for less money than the factory cross bars. They had phenomenal reviews both here and on Amazon.

See link
http://www.amazon.com/2011-2016-Gran...okee+roof+rack

Unbeknownst to me, the dealer threw in Mopar cross bars for free. They are due in a couple of days and they will then schedule me for install if I want them to do it. (Amazon bars are in my garage now but I need to install them.)

Looking for opinions on what I should do. Keep Amazon and sell Mopar. Keep Mopar and return Amazon? Get rid of both and start over? I am open to any suggestions .

Thanks,

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Just my opinion, but I would start over and go with Yakima aero bars. Love mine, and they look sweet. Pretty good load rating; not certain what those two are.

However, free crossbars from a dealer is always nice; even with install!

Installation on either of these three is not too difficult!

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

I love my Mopar rack.....they are relatively quiet, look good and non-bulky (and less money). I returned my Thule rack system because they were bulky and did not screw into the existing rail. In the end most major brands are all good, preference really.
