Off topic but what tire setup are you running? Also what size?
Thanks! I have BFG KO2s 275/55/20 on the stock rim; 1.25 BORA spacers on. I'm waiting on my RRO 1.75 leveling kit.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Found nothing but great information here so thanks in advance. We have a camping trip coming up for the 4th of July weekend and with the kids now requiring to bring along more stuff, the rear cargo space isn't enough. I'm planning on ordering the Mopar bars from JustforJeeps as they have a great price along with the positive feedback here.

I'm looking for a cargo box and have narrowed the search down between the Thule Sonic 635 XL and Thule Force XL. My wife likes the look of the Sonic since it's glossy black and matches the vehicle, but I haven't really been able to tell the difference between the 2. Majority of reviews have been on the positive side, so looking for some experts here to give some hands on feedback.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

The glossy Sonic will look nice when it's clean and unblemished. As soon as it gets a scratch or two and gets dirty, it looks kind of crappy in my opinion. I prefer the look of the textured Force XL that I have because it doesn't show much.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

Thanks for that bit of info, didn't think of that. I keep looking at the price difference on Amazon between the 2 and the Force seems to be the more attractive bargain. Going to do a little more research/comparisons before I make my final choice.

I'll echo JGinBoston's words. If you regularly Armor All it, it will be nice and shiny and give you the look your wife likes. But these things are essentially plastic and over time the UV rays degrade the material. The boxes stay strong, but the appearance visibly degrades. Hey, maybe she'll volunteer to Armor All it. Every 2 or 3 months should do the trick.

Personally I prefer the look of the Thule Force, its shape and lines, but that is my personal preference.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

I noticed a problem yesterday, on the rack of a very old and well-run Cherokee. I hope the pictures show it - the bar end at the right front tower is separating from its mount, resulting in the bar tilting up at that end and down at the other end. That tilt is what first caught my eye. All racks of this type that I had seen before were pretty new, so I haven't seen this problem before. But this rack (and the Cherokee) have a lot of rough miles on it.

My concern here is for long-term durability of a rack of this type. Especially when the rack is fully loaded and cinched down securely with come-along straps, and then on some off-roading where the load moves sometimes violently with every rock or step or big bump, over time this could be a failure point.

Added: this almost-failure of the towers is caused by, I think, a heavy load that then is laterally jostled, like the side to side jostling that especially happens off-road. That's a guess from my basic analysis of statics, but ne of the engineering classes I actually did the studying for. Summation of forces = 0, summation of torques = 0, IIRC

This picture is taken from the front passenger side. The near tower is where the problem is.

This picture is taken from the rear passenger side. The far tower is where the problem is, but it's seen better in the first picture. My white JGC is in the background.

Nice pics, and nice rig! Thanks especially for the close-up of the tower. The failure I saw yesterday shouldn't happen with that design.

Re: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List

I have the RRO roof rails and they are great

http://www.rocky-road.com/wk2-rails.html

Didn't like their rack system though so I made my own. Uni-strut, expanded metal mesh, some u-bolts - welded it up and even had it powder coated...

Have any close ups of the tower? I see it's tilted, that's about it.

Sorry, those are all I have. In the first pic if you zoom in on the near tower you may be able to see the cross bar end is 'dislocated' a little from where it joins the tower.
