Most would match it relatively fine as long as you get a quality bulb. I had V3 Tritons on my wife's 2014 Toyota Highlander which used the V3s for steady burn outer lamps and brakes and the intensity to the original inner halogen bulbs was pretty good. So you might even be fine leaving the other bulb stock.

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

I sold my Summit and reinstalled the V3 kit on my newly acquired 2015 High Altitude and I did what I feel is a much nicer install than I did on my Summit. Here is a basic update on my new installation technique in my new HA:
I accessed everything from under the bumper and all the V3 parts are installed behind the bumper and are easily accessible from below. What I didn't like about my Summit install and doing it from the top was having to pull the bumper back a bit and having to mount some of the V3 components to the tail light itself. I had to lengthen the wires that go from the V3 control module to the bulb itself, but that was easy enough, and now the only thing going up to the tail light is the connector to the LED bulb and nothing more. The V3 resistor is mounted cleanly on a nice flat metal surface that's actually part of the hitch. It's like a perfect shelf for it. The harness and adapter are secured to other factory wiring behind the bumper.

Here is a picture of the V3 module and harness. I had to lengthen to wires that connect to the LED so that these parts can be mounted further away behind the bumper and not on the tail light:

Here is the bulb installed and LED connector wire attached. Nothing else required at the lamp as everything is mounted down below. Now the install looks stock at the lamp:

Here is a picture looking up from under the Jeep. This is looking up from right around the exhaust tip area. Resistor is mounted on a flat surface on the top of the hitch, control module is mounted on a flat surface above the bumper reflector, and the harness and adapters are secured to existing wires and harnesses behind the bumper. Sorry it's not the best picture, it's all I could really do:

No this is still a mystery to most. I was thinking about pulling stuff apart and seeing if I could just tie them into the lights near by.

But why would anyone do that when no WK2 has lights on the lift gate? well with exception to the running bulb in there on the 2011-2013 models and the LED ring on the 2014+. In other words, there are no signal (brake/turn) light on the liftgate on any WK2, so how would anyone "upgrade" what was never there?

I'm sure there is a way to wire them together and hey both blink for turn signals or when you apply the brakes?

Yup absolutely there would be a way. Just would require some wiring thats all. On the 2014+ you would only want them to do what the outer ones do which is brake and turn signals. Obviously you wouldn't want it to be just a running light as thats what the LED ring does.

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

Hey JTS, I just wanted to thank you for this thread and the detailed info with pics. I now have the V3 Tritons with the extended bulb wires installed as you did on your second go-round. They look outstanding!

I do have one question though, were your resistors leaking black sand all over the packaging when you got them? Mine were...all the boxes in the main box were coated in it. The sand was coming from the spot where the wires entered the resistor, on both of them. If I turned them with the wires facing down, it would pour out in a fine stream. I decided to just seal them up with some spray adhesive and use them anyway. So far so good.

Anyway, thanks again for figuring out the best LED brake light option so I wouldn't have to.

The v3 doesn't come with the bulb extenders? Just curious. I got my box and never even opened it. If it doesn't is there a specific one I need (I mean 2 obviously)

Thanks!

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

No, it's designed to have the controller box mounted pretty close to the led bulb, but our GC's taillight doesn't have much room behind it to mount that, so we just cut 2 wires and added about a foot of wire, so we could leave the controller behind the bumper. It's not that the kit is missing anything, it's just easier to mount with that one pair of wires being longer. If you read the first install and then the second install at the beginning and end of this thread, it will make perfect sense.

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

Yeah what driver save said. All you have to do is either buy a plug and play extension for the wire going to the LED bulb, or extend them yourself. This allows you to mount the components behind he bumper and lower so they can relatively be easily accessible from under.

DriverDave,
That sand thing is really weird, I have never heard of that. To answer yours question no, mine did not have a sand leaking from them. I do know the resistors get warm so you may want to see if they can send you replacements just to be safe. They are a simple swap so should be easy. BTW, love your summit! That color is just insane!
