They didn't read the instructions. They have to use the black sleeve for the 3157 bulbs. The 4mm screws thread into that. The 3mm screws are used for the 7443 bulbs.

also, he showed me that you can put the 3mm screws in but they fall right out. he had the 4mm screws in the other one and it was secure.

I didn't even install those in mine, I went with the full LED tail lights. And no, they did not come with instructions. I found that on their site when I put my set up for sale.

Unless they revised the bulb and the only screws you use are the 4mm. I think you would still have to use the sleeve for the 3157 bulbs.

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

well, just got done doing these. took much longer than i anticipated, mostly due to me.

first, i see what the guy was saying - you have to use the collar or the light will not properly "latch" when you put it in the tail light assembly and twist. it would have been swimming in there. i went to a couple places and could not find any more 4mm screws, so i split them - 3 in one and 2 in the other. both worked fine and are secure.

i added 16" of length per james' suggestion. i liked the idea of everything being below. i didn't solder the wires - i used in-line crimp connectors and taped the hell out of them. in fact, i taped the whole length so it was well-protected. then i took it out to the car to see what's up. once i took apart the existing assembly, i realized what everyone was talking about re: pulling the bumper away a bit. you have to shove the massive factory brake light plug down behind, and there's no way it fits without bending the bumper away. i did remove the 30T torx screw to make it easier. i dropped everything through, thinking i'd do the rest from underneath. WRONG! once i climbed under, i realized that the factory brake light plug only drops a few inches, nowhere near enough to get my hands up there to plug & tape. so, back up top i went, pulled it all back through, filled it with some silicone diode gel, tested polarity to make sure it worked, then applied the shrink tube weather proofing that came with the kit i ordered. taped all that up after, tested it, dropped it all back down, climbed under, secured the controller to the back of the reflector, plugged in the resistor, secured it to the top of the hitch "shelf" per james' suggestion, went back up to to test - nothing. WHAT. THE. F**K! so AGAIN i unplug everything, pull it all back up and realize that the shrink tube wasn't as tight as it could have been and simply nudging the connection made it not work. it's very sensitive. so i cut it all off, pulled the adapter, re-siliconed, re-tested, then just taped the hell out of it all. if i had more shrink tube, what i should have done was tape it all together first, THEN shrink tube, but oh well. just taped all up, it worked fine. tested again, dropped it all behind, re-secured controller, re-plugged everything. then the final PITA was trying to get my hands up the side enough to put a zip tie around the loose wires and factory tail light/adapter taped monstrosity.

of course i did both lights at once so got to enjoy this twice.

anyway, got it all done in about 4h. never as simple as you'd think, at least for me.

oh, and at the very beginning when i was backing out of the garage to turn the car around, there was a wasp in my car that stung my neck. that's how my project started lol.

anyway, happy with them right now. hope that LED lasts forever, as changing the lamp will require doing all this again, heh. thanks to everyone in this thread, especially james, for the help and suggestions. this place rocks.

Re: WK2 rear brake turn LED's installed. VLED V3 Triton with pics

I had a "Right rear bulb out" error which was the VLED turn signal. Upon troubleshooting, I found that the bulb was fine but the V3 Base Adapter which plugs into the OEM bulb connection was damaged. It looked like it was burnt on the edge and the connections were toast. I ended up putting in the OEM bulb which worked fine until I could contact VLED.

I submitted a warranty claim (purchased July 2015) and I received a response indicating they are sending me a brand new V3 Base. It's on the way 2 day shipped.

Basically I wanted to say that not only do I love the V3 Tritons, but the VLED customer service is great!

Where did you guys mount the resistors without extending the wire?

Wish I could chime in on this. I also extended my wires prior to install.

If you have the flat V3 resistor with the double sided tape on it there is a couple places it can go and I think it will work in either even if you did not extend wires for the bulb. There is a vertical flat painted surface that is about 1fy directly under the tail light housing behind the bumper. It's tight, but you can access it from that small opening up top.
A MUCH better spot is a flat "shelf" on the actual hitch. You access this from laying under the rear and simply reach up. Easy to get to, perfect flat metal surface...doesn't get any better IMO. That's where mine is and it's been great.

Hopefully my lights come in today. is there room for zip ties? How strong is the double sided tape?
