Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

My advice to everyone buying this kit is, get the full LED package. Once you install this you'll be so impressed with this mod you will wish you got the LED's. Speaking from my own experience. I'm in the process of switching parts in order to convert to LED's while giving Ken a headache in the process. :-)

In other words, I plan on buying your halogen kit now, then once Jeep makes LED's OEM for the WK2 rear lights, I want to buy those and then change the bulbs in your kit to LED. Will I need resistors to do that?

Thanks in advance...
This is where my hold up is. I was ready to go but don't want to spend money on something that will not work, then have to try and figure out how to make it work later.

Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

Another thing you can do is purchase now.. Buy the halogen kit with the ability (plugs) to add resistors if necessary in the future making it plug and play if required... Therefore your prepared. The only thing you may need to either send back in or change yourself is if they make LED taillights, the plugs may be different, and if they were/are different you'd have to modify the original taillight solutions harness or send it in to get modified to change the plugs.. At least for now you'll have working bumper lights. 2012 was supposed to bring LED taillights, now maybe 2013 or 2014. Keep on waiting and 2016 will roll around and it will be a completely new body style already..

@Ken,

Thanks for your quick reply... expect my payment soon.

I'm just going to do halogen and then figure out the LED OEM rears when they become available.

I can't wait to get my hands on this kit... Thanks everyone... great thread BTW...

Not a problem. Glad I could help clarify your concerns.

I totally understand your decision to go with the halogen kit initially before possibly swapping to LED. This is one of the primary reasons I designed the kits to work with halogen OR LED bulbs without any modifications. The last thing I wanted was to force customers to spend more money at a later date to simply allow their kits to work with LED bulbs. The only out of pocket cost is for the LED's themselves which can be obtained from various sources or from me.

Feel free to place your order anytime, I can usually get them shipped within 48-72 hrs depending on my parts supply.

Ken

Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

Just installed my set today and like others have said, very pleased with the revised look. I went with the simple halogen kit and no regrets. I like the extra visibility of the brake lights, and the general nighttime balance.

Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

Thanks Taillight Solutions for confirming my thoughts. If you replace the 7440 bulbs with LEDs then there shouldn't be any flash difference as the standard bulbs are still in the OE stop/tail housings.

Correct. If you want to be technically correct, they are 7443 sockets though.

Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

Also as an Update to the original thread I started on 12/15, my kit is still working great, no flaws or hiccups. Working the same as the day I put them in. I know 2 months isn't a long time yet, but just letting others know its a kit built to last.

You guys are killing me. I keep looking at this thread over and over. I am pretty sure it's just a matter of time.

I tried to convince myself I would not modify my jeep but I am pretty sure I lied to myself. haha.

Re: WK2 rear fog lamp Install w/Pictures

I switched the kit (with Ken's help) from halogen to LEDs and I couldn't be happier. I just ordered the rest of the rear lights (tailgate, tailgate reverse, and main reverse) in LED's. Install is a piece of cake once you figure it out. The hardest part is to put the light covers back with the new cables and resistors inside.

I hear you man. I told myself the same thing. Some chrome fog light bezels and aluminum pedals later and I'm like uh oh, here I go again on another vehicle.
